Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Tampke.
Laura, before we jump into specific questions about your practice, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I became a registered nurse in 2011. Originally going into the medical field, I thought I wanted to be a NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) nurse and work with babies. I quickly learned that it was not for me. I then went on to search for a new route of nursing while I continued schooling for my bachelor’s in nursing. Shortly after, I learned about medical aesthetics and was so intrigued. I decided I wanted to learn more about the skin, so I went on to study esthetics at Aveda Institute and became a licensed esthetician. It was there I realized that Aesthetics was my true passion. I began my new career working in a medical spa where I learned the art of injecting and medical cosmetic procedures. I have since worked for plastic surgeons, a dermatologist, and multiple medical spas. For the last seven years, I have dedicated my life to building my knowledge and expertise in aesthetics. After many ups and downs and trial and error, I decided to branch out on my own. I opened Aesthetic Nurse Ginger in November of 2019. I have had inspirational support from my family, friends, and clients!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a long hard road to get to where I am. For me to say I’ve only been in this career for seven years, floors me. It feels like a lifetime! I have worked for people that did not respect their staff or clients. I have had two unsuccessful business partnerships. In the middle of all of this, I got married, moved across the country and had a baby, and then moved all the way back. My husband has been laid off twice. And to top it off, I have started back to grad school to become a nurse practitioner. It’s been a chaotic but beautiful ride with lots of hard but necessary life lessons. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without it.
Please tell us about your practice.
Aesthetic Nurse Ginger is a medspa. We perform medical cosmetic treatments. We specialize in Injectable treatments such as Botox, Jeuveau, and dermal fillers. We work under the supervision of Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Younghoon Cho. We pride ourselves in having only medically trained and licensed staff. We believe educating our clients is key. We prefer to treat conservatively so that you never look overdone or unnatural.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is not just meeting the goals you have set for yourself but also learning to be proud of all of your accomplishments along the way, big or small.
