Meet Lauren Kate Austin of Lauren Kate Austin Fitness in West Universitya and Galleria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Kate Austin.

Lauren Kate, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas; I attended St. Agnes Academy for High School and went to Texas Tech University for my undergraduate degree. I always loved playing sports so I thought it fitting to get my degree in Exercise Sciences and Education. I wanted to be a PE teacher but settled for a job teaching 5th grade science. Although I liked teaching; I found it to be stressful day in and day out. One day and I decided to go back to school to get my Master’s in Strength and Conditioning (Completed May 2015), but thought it useful to get a Personal Trainer certificate first. Best decision I ever made. I spent the next year, teaching, going to school and working part time as a trainer. The part time training job I had led me to start training at a gym called The Next Level Fitness where I found it to be a great place to start my own fitness business. Now I am not just a Personal Trainer but I am also certified in Nutrition/Weight Management.

When the 2013 school year was over, I packed up all my things from my classroom and left, knowing that personal training was my new career. Although my business is small, all my clients have been successful in their own ways; training for a competition or losing 90 plus pounds. I love training my clients; helping them push themselves out of their comfort zones to reach a physical potential they never thought possible. Even though I am no longer a classroom teacher, I teach my clients every day; how to work out properly; teaching them proper form and technique as well as about nutrition and how they need to be eating in order to reach their goals.

I am different than many trainers; I haven’t always been in shape. I struggled for 10 years with an eating disorder as well as body image issues. When I started training for Physique Competitions, I wanted a goal that I could commit to as well as to get into shape and become a trainer that practices what they preach. That hard work soon paid off and I won the first ever Musclemania Woman’s Physique Pro title in 2014. I graduated with my Master’s Degree and now am venturing into new avenues in the Health and Wellness Industry as well as I continue to train for an upcoming show in 2017 while managing my Fitness Business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building my business has definitely not been a smooth road. When I first started out on my own I had just a couple of clients and would train maybe 1 or 3 people a day. Slowly but surely, I started to gain some momentum with signing up new clients, making huge transformations with my clients, as well as building my own reputation in the fitness industry; I worked hard to learn as much as I can about training, building nutrition plans, as well as how to run a business and I continue to better myself each day. I am not the same trainer I was two years ago!

With Personal Training/Nutrition coaching there are always going to be struggles; some weeks you may have tons of clients get sick or cancel; other times I have hosted a Nutrition course but no one signed up. Even though sometimes it feels like a blow to your ego, I just kept working harder; and soon my classes started to sell out!

Please tell us about Lauren Kate Austin Fitness.
My business is a Personal Fitness and Wellness company. I am a Personal Trainer, a Nutrition/Weight Management coach, I do Fitness Competition Prep as well as I teach Stage Posing for Bikini, Figure, Physique and Female Bodybuilders.

What Sets me apart: Unlike most trainers, I can give nutrition advice as well as create customized meal plans by having an extra certification. This plays a HUGE role in helping my clients actually achieve their personal wellness goals.

I specialize in many things, but I can help my clients achieve results with just 30 minute sessions 2-3 times a week along with proper nutrition. I also have created my own Meal Prep Class in which I teach anyone willing to learn how to successfully Meal Prep a week’s worth of food in about 2 hours! Since I stress how important nutrition is and I would never be able to cook for all my clients, I created this class to help out. These classes have been a huge success and I have been teaching them for now 2 years.

What I am most proud of as a company: I look at each successful client I have and I get so excited when each of them hit a new mile stone. I get picture texts from clients of them flexing in the mirror because they are so proud of the muscle they have built or they share how coworkers and family members can see the progress that they have made.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory/memories were when I went fishing with my Grandfather up in Minnesota. We would go fish for Sun Fish and he would always buy wax worms and bring an ear of corn for bait. He would take me and my mom and sister to a new lake and we would sit quietly for hours waiting for a nibble and each time one of us would pull up a fish Grandpa John would get so excited. After we finished for the day he and I would clean the fish and then using his own recipe we would have a huge family fish fry!
