Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Sistek.
Lauren, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a graduate of Central Michigan University with a bachelor of applied arts in commercial recreation and event management, I brought my passion and experience for the hospitality industry to help create lasting experiences! A Michigan native, I started my journey at Battleground as the Events Coordinating Intern in May of 2016. Six months later I was promoted to Wedding Sales Director and Food and Beverage Manager. As a server in the food industry for many years through college, I have seen a diversity of all levels of food service and hospitality and do my best to bring my experiences to better the experience at our restaurant.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road since my take over as the Food and Beverage Manager, but what fun would that be? I love a challenge so the past year has given me the experience to test my limits, so seeing the grill transform has been such a reward. One of our biggest struggles is getting people in the doors, once they are here they love the view that we have as well as the exceptional service. Everyone associates a golf course as being a private club because of the members that make each club unique. Even though we have members we are a public course open to anyone who wishes to work on their swing or grab a bite to eat. Slowly we have seen word of mouth change the perception of not being a public course but we still hear it so often! Another challenge that we faced was not having a niche for the grill, we had too much of a variety on our menu. So what Chef Harker and I did was sat down and came up with a “Build Your Own Burger” concept which we are making our niche. We want to be known for the best and most creative burgers in town! We are constantly looking for ways to better ourselves and look forward to feedback from the community.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Battleground Golf Course – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Battleground Golf Course is steeped in Texas History. Each of the 18 holes has been named after a historic event or person in regards to Texas History. Besides being the “place to play” we are also a banquet facility for various social functions, hold “lunch and learns” for corporations, and an all-inclusive venue for brides and grooms. There is also the Republic Grill which offers a variety of food and drinks specials open for lunch daily 11am -3pm and breakfast on Friday or Saturday mornings from 7am-11am. What sets us apart from others is our location which is conveniently 20 minutes from downtown and off of 225, as well as our captivating view through our floor to ceiling glass windows, accompanied with our phenomenal customer service and attention to detail.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We have some major changes underway for 2018 that we are very excited about! For the restaurant, we have the new “Build a Burger” menu concept that we just launched and watching it take off. For Weddings, we are creating a bridal suite for our brides to get ready the day of and hopefully shortly after a groom’s suite for the guys. We are also in the process of building a second ceremony cite for couples to choose from, which will create two very different but very romantic cites. Lastly and most importantly, we will be getting a floor change! We have heard couple’s comments for a year and are finally happy to announce that we will be changing to become more modernized! We know this will give the club a totally different look and cannot wait for this project to be finished! We will be having a red-carpet event for the public to come and see all of these amazing changes once all of the construction is over so make sure to keep your eyes out for that date!
