Meet Lindsay Lucas of Lean On Me Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Lucas.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve known from a very young age that I was made to help people. My friends and family would describe me as having a servant’s heart. Growing up I was under the impression that the best way to help others was in the medical field. So that’s what I went to school for. Unfortunately, I found out pretty quickly that spending my days in a hospital were not full of sunshine, both literally and figuratively. While I loved helping others I wasn’t crazy about doing the same thing day in and day out. It’s a very admirable field but it just wasn’t for me. At the time I was planning several of my friends’ weddings in the evenings after work. My husband actually encouraged me to take a leap of faith and turn my passion into a business.

From there it was a bumpy but happy road. I made a lot of mistakes but learned a lot and met some of my best friends. Today, Lean On Me Events has multiple planners and is one of the most respected {and friendliest} wedding planning companies in the Houston area.

Has it been a smooth road?
Is there such a thing as a smooth road for entrepreneurs? Ha! There have been a lot of ups and downs but in looking back I think the struggle is what has made it so great! Having the ability to be flexible, willing to roll with the punches, and adapt has been key.

I think as an entrepreneur we are in a constant state of learning. Entrepreneurs, especially creative entrepreneurs, are a different breed for sure. Most of us are hungry to learn and grow and are most happy when we are breaking through barriers and resetting our goals to be higher than the ones we just achieved. In growing a business I think my biggest learning curve was hiring. I’m somewhat of a control freak…ok, ok a big control freak…so letting go and delegating was definitely difficult and is something that I’m still finding ways to perfect to this day.

The other thing I wish I would’ve done sooner is to find my tribe, my community. I thought I had it because I had a steady list of vendors that I recommended often and we got along great but I’ve met some of my best friends in this industry and literally talk to them every day. We share victories. We lift each other up. We share LIFE, not just work. Now I can’t imagine my life without them.

I’m currently in a season of learning how to transition into more of a CEO role. I’m finding it challenging to be more behind the scenes and overseeing the business than actually being IN the business. Thankfully, I have an amazing team by my side who I’d trust with my own wedding so it makes the transition a little easier to swallow. Knowing they share my ideals, morals, and belief in giving our clients the best experience possible gives me peace of mind and allows me to be able to take a step back in order to take care of higher level operations. Basically, my team is the bomb dot com <– do people still say that? Maybe I’m showing my age….

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Lean On Me Events is a wedding planning and design company that specializes in couples who are interested in creating a marriage that’s far more beautiful than their wedding day. We will definitely give you a stress free and FUN planning experience but what I’m most proud of is that we are invested in our clients’ marriages long after the wedding day is over.

The last sparkler may have burnt out after their exit but the fun is just getting started for our couples and the friendship that we have cultivated with them! We attend baby showers, exchange Christmas cards, have girls’ nights, celebrate job promotions and provide support during the hard times as well. Some of our best friends are past clients and it’s one of my favorite things about working with our brides and getting to know them personally.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! I’ve actually studied other markets in Texas and Houston stands out by far in monetary terms. But there’s also something to be said about the heart of our city. I might be biased but I think Houston has the kindest people. As a young creative it’s so important to have good people in your corner and Houston is full of kind and generous people.
