Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Miano.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lynn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been doodling for as long as I can remember. Growing up my mom used to always give me the sweetest greeting cards with a handwritten note in every single one. Whether it was when she was upset with me, missed me, or just because. It wasn’t just holidays or birthdays. She made me feel celebrated for even the smallest things. That always resonated with me. I started Smilynn Art as a way to keep that feeling alive in my community and with anyone who is looking to do the same.
Although it has only been a few months since I launched my website, I have been attending pop ups all over Houston and that has brought me such an element of excitement I could literally only dreamed of. I love meeting all these awesome local artists and sharing my journey while growing as an artist myself. My art is all hand-drawn originals and I intend on always putting love into everything I do while keeping it affordable and relatable to anyone and everyone who comes across each piece. It is been absolutely humbling getting to do this while supporting myself and others around me do what they love too.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think every artist has a moment where they doubt themselves. They fear rejection and struggle with how to just start something out of no where. Houston has such a loving community of people who constantly support and offer advice without expecting anything but love and growth in return. I am one of those people. And now for me to be able to do what I love I feel such an even stronger bond to my local artist friends who have helped me along my small business journey. In my times of doubt and uncertainty it is the community who helps me back on my feet. Inspiration, for me is truly everywhere.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with SmiLynn Art – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
SmiLynn Art started out as simple greeting cards but throughout the year it has evolved into so much more. Puzzles, canvases, zines, portraits, stickers. The one thing that has stayed the same is the originality. I gain my inspiration from everyone I meet. Trying to stick with my goal, that anytime you view my art you’ll find a piece to relate to. No two pieces are the same and each one is something I felt inspired to make. Whether it is something I create from my own wacky brain or have been commissioned to create from someone else’s idea, my art continues to grow while still keeping the authentic hand-drawn feel.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Houston is my home. I was born and raised here and have lived all over the place in it. It’s built my character and made my heart stronger. I love the sense of support all the local artists here have. We all want eachother to be successful. I love attending markets my friends worked hard to vend at, then get the chance to vend somewhere and see them all by my side in support for me too. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be where I am today. We all work very hard and take a lot of pride and passion in our achievements. If it wasn’t for the terrible traffic I think this city would be even more of an adventure to reach in so many more places!
