Meet Misty Rockwell of Misty Rockwell Artistry in Oak Forest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Rockwell.

Misty, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have had a life long love of makeup and my fondest memories were of playing in makeup from the very start. A lot of the women in my family were very glam and they all taught me all of their tricks, I could do a full face of makeup on myself by the age of 3. My first job was at my cousin’s hair salon, and I loved being in the industry and going to hair shows at 17. When I graduated from high school, I thought I had I to go to college and get a “regular job”, but makeup always followed me. I worked at various makeup counters and spas and salons on and off for years before I realized I wanted this to be my full-time job and I wanted to follow my passion. It took me a while to get to that point, but once I did I never looked back. I trained with one of the most sought out makeup artists in Houston at the time, then, became one of her team of makeup and hair artists. Its one of the best decisions I have ever made! I worked on her team for over four years, where I learned all the foundations of being a great makeup artist. Almost five years ago, I decided to branch out on my own and founded Misty Rockwell Artistry. It’s been very successful from the beginning and I am very lucky to be able to do what I love each and every day.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was very hard to make the ultimate jump and decide this was my career path because I thought I wouldn’t be respected by my family and peers. But to my surprise, they all supported and encouraged me a long the way because they knew it was my true passion. The first year of training was tough because my boss expected nothing but the best, but it truly helped me become the artist I am today. While training and being in the very beginning stages when work wasn’t flowing in, I had to have faith that one day it would, and it would only take a matter of time. I have been very blessed in my business and worked hard to be where I am today, so I don’t see things as challenges anymore just learning lessons that come with owning your own business.

Misty Rockwell Artistry has been operating for almost 5 years providing hair and makeup for all occasions! We specialize in weddings, pageants, commercial, film, and production work. We have a team of highly trained artists that can customize a perfect look for your event. Misty Rockwell Artistry is known for their professionalism and attention to detail. We love everything from glam to doing male grooming for some of the biggest celebrities in the business!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Most recently my proudest moment has been in training new artists. One, in particular, has been with me for two years training everything hair and makeup and to see how amazing she makes me proud beyond belief. I would have never thought I would be in a place to be able to mentor and guide new artists and it’s truly so rewarding. I have had some really amazing mentors, so I try and pass on what they have taught me so I can give back as well.
