Today we’d like to introduce you to Nakia Wilkins.
Nakia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up watching my mom braid hair and became very interested in doing it. I would watch how she would braid and then go and grab a Barbie doll to practice. Over time hair became my passion and I wanted to learn everything I could from braiding, styling, coloring, and how to maintain healthy hair. I am a self-taught braider but I am also in cosmetology school to further my knowledge of all the aspects in the cosmetology field.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I would say the hardest struggle I have had so far was not believing in myself. I would see other hairstylist post their work on social media and began to compare my work to theirs and become discouraged.
Raza Beauty – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Raza Beauty is a company that believes in giving every client a little more hope. Raza beauty specializes in braiding, silk presses, coloring, and maintaining healthy hair for all hair textures and all ages. Raza is mostly known for hair braiding. As a company I am most proud of the continual perseverance to not stop giving clients the best experience they can have here at Raza Beauty by giving them a little more hope and faith through hairstyling, that if they are having a bad day or week their new look will give them motivation to stand up and walk through the rest of the day with more confidence and strength. My heart is what set me apart from others. I believe a hairstylist is somewhat like a therapist. Instead of me giving advice, I work with my hands and my heart to make my clients feel confident and encouraged.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far has been growth. Not just in my business Itself but as a person within the business. As my business has grown so have I and I couldn’t have been more proud.
