Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Danielle.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up a shy girl with big dreams. I struggled with self-esteem and self-image all through middle school and high school and was only able to overcome that and begin to love myself when I began to really develop my relationship with God in college and seek out my God-given purpose. I completed my Bachelor’s in Engineering at Prairie View A&M University and my MBA at Jacksonville State University and worked for a large consulting firm for several years before I felt led to take a leap of faith and leave Corporate America. During that time, I began writing and published my first book “While You Wait” and my second book, “Every Single Woman’s Devotional” which opened the door for me to speak at many different events across the Houston area and ultimately helped me realize that my purpose is to empower women, teens, and girls.
A year later, I was given the opportunity to become a teacher and I accepted. From high school forward, I had worked with children and teenagers in church and different organizations so I knew I had a passion there but never planned on going into the education profession. After about a year and a half of teaching, I began to see a huge need in the lives of my students, especially my girls. I recognized a lot of the issues they were facing stemmed from the same thing I struggled with at their age, not understanding my self-worth and realizing my life had a significant purpose. I knew that if we could teach them early about valuing who God made them be, it would make a world of difference in their life decisions both now and in the future. So, in 2017, I founded the I Am Purposed Foundation and hosted the 1st Annual Purpose & Purity Conference.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I started the journey of founding my non-profit and hosting Purpose & Purity events with no idea of how much work and sacrifice would be involved. When I first began, I had no mentor or leader to help me learn the ropes. I put it in a lot of hours of research, attending training, etc. to build my own knowledge base for what I knew I had been called to do. Not to mention, lots of personal finance until we could build a support base to sustain our projects. It was, and still sometimes is, hard to keep the faith as doors are shut in your face or you aren’t receiving the support you hoped for… especially from people you know, but I truly had to learn to trust God and the vision He placed inside of me. It has been a complete faith walk as I learned step by step every part of what it means to be an effective leader and how to host impactful events for my girls, but it’s definitely all worth it knowing the lives that can be changed with this message of hope.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about I Am Purposed Foundation – what should we know?
In an age when more and more young women are plagued with low self-esteem, poor self-image and lack of purpose, the goal of the I Am Purposed Foundation and all of our Purpose & Purity events is to inspire and encourage girls ages 7-16 with hope for their future and confidence in their worth and value as young women. In addition, they are introduced to what it means to walk in purity in mind, body, and spirit and how this will help them maintain clarity and focus as they pursue their purpose. Our events feature age-based breakout sessions, interactive lessons, relationship building activities and most of all, FUN! We are most proud of fostering a safe, supportive environment for our girls to thrive in as they connect with other like-minded girls their age and empowering them to confidently face and overcome the many challenges young women go through during their coming of age years. So far, we have reached over 70 girls with our message and we look forward to the opportunity to impact many more.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The characteristic I feel is most important to my success is tenacity. Success requires a relentless pursuit that is not shaken by circumstances. One that is willing to continuously get back up, no matter how many times things in life come to knock you down. If we want to be successful, we must be willing to push past everything that doesn’t serve our future, even our own limiting thoughts about ourselves. Success is inevitable for the one who refuses to give up.
