Hi Nicole, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into photography began with something simple: I loved capturing moments that people could look back on and feel all over again.
What started as a passion slowly became something much bigger. I began picking up my camera, building my portfolio, learning through every session, and saying yes to opportunities that pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Along the way, I discovered that photography wasn’t just about taking a beautiful picture—it was about capturing personality, confidence, emotion, and the little moments that make someone’s story uniquely theirs.
Today, I’m the owner and photographer behind Emerie Photography, a growing photography business based in Southeast Texas. I’ve had the opportunity to photograph everything from seniors and families to couples, events, creative concepts, and unique projects that allow me to think outside the box. I’m constantly looking for new people, places, and stories to photograph, and I’m especially passionate about creating images that make people feel confident and seen.
Building a business while working and continuing my education hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has reminded me why I started. I’m still growing, still learning, and still dreaming bigger.
My goal with Emerie Photography is simple: to create more than just photographs. I want every person I work with to walk away feeling like they were truly seen, their story was valued, and their memories were captured in a way they’ll treasure for years to come.
What began as a love for photography has become a dream I’m continuing to build—one photograph, one client, and one opportunity at a time.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road—and I think that’s part of what has made the journey so meaningful.
Building a photography business while balancing work, school, and everyday life has come with plenty of challenges. There have been moments of self-doubt, slow seasons, financial sacrifices, and times when I wondered if I was really capable of turning my passion into something sustainable. Growing a business from the ground up also means constantly learning—how to market yourself, find clients, build a portfolio, price your work, and have the confidence to put yourself and your creativity out there.
But I’ve learned that setbacks don’t mean you’re going in the wrong direction. Sometimes they simply mean you’re growing.
Every challenge has pushed me to become more confident, more creative, and more determined. I’ve learned to celebrate the small wins, keep showing up, and trust that the work I’m putting in today will create opportunities tomorrow.
I’m still very much on the journey, but that’s what excites me. I don’t have everything figured out, and I don’t think I’m supposed to. I’m building something that is mine, and I’m excited to see just how far I can take it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As an artist and creative, photography is my way of turning ideas, emotions, and stories into something people can see and feel.
I work across many different styles and types of photography, including portraits, seniors, couples, families, maternity, events, weddings, lifestyle, creative concepts, and more. I especially love projects that allow me to step outside the traditional approach and create something completely unique.
One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is that I don’t want to stay inside one box. One day I might be creating something soft and timeless, and the next I might be photographing motorcycles, a nostalgic 2000s-inspired concept, or an editorial-style session. I love experimenting with lighting, locations, movement, styling, and storytelling to bring an idea to life.
What I’m most proud of is building Emerie Photography around my creativity rather than trying to make myself fit into what photography is “supposed” to look like. I want my work to have personality. I want people to see an image and feel something.
What sets me apart is my willingness to create and my attitude of “Let’s try it.” If someone comes to me with an idea that has never been done before, my first thought isn’t, “That’s too different.” It’s, “How can we make it happen?” I love collaborating with people, taking an idea and turning it into something tangible, and sometimes discovering that the most unexpected concepts create the most incredible photographs.
I’m still growing as an artist, but that’s what makes this journey exciting. I’m constantly learning, experimenting, and finding new ways to turn an idea into an image. I hope people recognize Emerie Photography not just for the photographs I take, but for the creativity, individuality, and stories behind them.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
There are some incredibly exciting things happening behind the scenes right now. I’m continuing to grow Emerie Photography, dream up concepts that push the boundaries of traditional photography, and pursue opportunities that challenge me creatively. I’m someone who has always believed that some of the best ideas begin with a simple, “What if we tried this?”
I’m also stepping into an entirely new creative world: I’m currently in the process of writing a book. It’s a project that has been both exciting and intimidating, but it’s allowing me to tell a story in a completely different way. I’m looking forward to sharing more about it—and several other projects I have in the works—when the time is right.
I don’t necessarily want to follow a predictable path. I want to create, experiment, take chances, and see where those ideas lead me. Photography is only one part of what I’m creating, and I have a feeling the best chapters of my story haven’t been written yet.
