Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki H.
Nikki, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Five years ago, my battle with chronic illness begun. My body had begun to take a downward spiral very rapidly. Before I knew it, I was struggling to get out of bed, brush my teeth, and bathe myself every day. As you can imagine, I was in a really dark place. I was in the trenches fighting for my life–– and my sanity.
I had seen doctor after doctor, holistic doctors, chiropractors, herbalists, etc. to no avail of coming any closer to figuring out what the heck was going on with my body. Auto-immune diseases, hypothyroidism, hair loss, severe depression, crippling anxiety, lightheadedness, painful cystic acne, chronic fatigue syndrome, crashed adrenals (“stage 4” of adrenal fatigue), over 15 cysts on my ovaries, PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome), nodules and cysts on my thyroid, a tumor pressing on my pituitary gland in my brain, over 85 food and environmental allergies, anaphylactic episodes, rashes and hives, non existent libido, 15 prescription medications along with probably a bathtub full of unnecessary supplements that didn’t ever work, and being told that I will never be able to have children. I was emotionally, physically, and spiritually defeated and exhausted.
It wasn’t until about two years ago that after I made the switch to a vegan lifestyle eating only whole plant-based foods that I reversed my PCOS–– within three months! A disease that I was told could NEVER be reversed. Something that I would have to live with for the rest of my life, now gone. I was elated. At that moment, I finally had made the connection that these beautiful fruits and vegetables I started incorporating into my diet do truly HEAL. These foods are our medicine. Whole foods that come directly from the Earth heal the majority of diseases and symptoms we experience on a daily basis. Who would’ve thought?
My hair no longer falls out, I got myself off of ALL of my prescription meds (yep, that’s right. I take ZERO medications now), my depression and anxiety have improved by 90%, no more lightheadedness, no more hives or rashes swarming my body, I can EAT again, pet animals, and be outside (no more reactions to those 85 food and environmental allergies), I have no worries if I will be able to start a family one day. I am still on my journey of healing, but I have come so far. And I want to help others to do the same.
I know what it’s like to feel stuck, hopeless, alone, let down, and misunderstood. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I assure you, there is! I want to be that guiding light for others. I am here to show how to detoxify our bodies, our homes, our hygiene + beauty routines, and everything in between. I show how simple it is to change your lifestyle for the better and to fully and finally HEAL using the power of plants. To become a healthier, loving life again, more vibrant, YOU!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey to wellness has had many ups and downs. Nothing worth having comes easy. Health is a privilege and if we really want it we have to work for it. This lifestyle requires dedication, consistency, time, and patience. There are also other factors that come along with it such as societal pressures, undoing conditioning that we have had put onto us since birth, being your only support system majority of the time, and feeling extremely isolated and lost. But nothing is as difficult as laying in bed feeling crippled and miserable just watching life pass you by.
I can understand how it may be difficult for someone to grasp the correlation between food + lifestyle relating to chronic illness or ailments in general when they feel fine in their body. They feel invincible. They look healthy, they’re working out hard every day, and they get to eat what they want without consequences. Or so they think. Prevention isn’t touched on nearly enough in this realm. And neither are the people who want to shut their ears and eyes because of arrogance. Healing is important, of course. But so is prevention. I too thought I was invincible. I was working out lifting almost every day, I got to eat tons of junk and stay thin, clear skin, I had energy… until one day, I didn’t. I was 19 years old. I woke up and the spiral started. My life was changed forever, just like that. First, it started with crazy acne as I’d never dealt with (“must be hormonal- just wait it out”), then the food/environmental allergies (“you should get rid of your dogs”), then the crippling fatigue (“you’re lazy and unmotivated. You don’t go to bed early enough”), not being able to eat (“your body can’t absorb protein”), diseases (“your body is attacking itself”), cysts (“you need to get on the pill”), tumor, nodules, anxiety, depression, doctor after doctor, prescription after prescription. The medical merry go round. No one’s body is bulletproof. Humans often overthink situations. And also test their luck. Food is the closest thing we’ll ever get to have the chance of being invincible in this world.
Their Hearts Beet Too – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I help others heal from the depths of chronic illness and disease. I also have created guides to make the transition to this lifestyle easier for people to do. I have a clean product guide that shows how to pick out cleaner “processed” products at the grocery store. I have a toxic makeup swap guide that shows how to switch from using chemical toxic makeup to using all natural non-toxic alternatives. I am also about to come out with a new clean hygiene guide that shows clean hygiene alternatives to the current toxic cancer-causing and endocrine disrupting products majority of society currently uses.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The best moments in this journey are knowing that I’m able to help others by changing their outlook on lifestyle habits and traditions. Also, being able to spread the message of prevention to the general masses through my platforms. When living with chronic illness or any type of disease we are constantly being pushed down. We’re brushed off by doctors and belittled by society. “It’s all in our head”, “you’re mellow dramatic”, “hypochondriac”- this list goes on and on. We’re always searching for answers and wishing we could dump our bodies and just press the restart button on life. There is a restart button – the majority of the world just hasn’t discovered it yet. I feel blessed and PROUD that I can help guide the way and connect to others through my experiences. I feel an obligation to share my truth and to spread the message of health and wellness. I truly feel that this is my purpose in this life. We all go through hardships for a reason. My healing journey has by far been the most difficult thing I have experienced but also by far the most rewarding. It has grown my character, it has expanded my compassion and understanding for all beings tremendously, and it has filled a piece of my soul that I always felt was missing. The best feeling in this life is to find your passion and calling. I’m proud that I have found mine.
