Meet Nina Magon of Contour Interior Design in Memorial and Spring Branch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Magon.

Nina is a national, multi-award winning interior designer and TV personality renowned for her signature refined modern aesthetic that perfectly balances bold high design with glamorous appeal. As Creative Director of Contour Interior Design with locations in Houston, TX, and Miami, FL.

She seeks to first create a vision and then execute it for each client, designing one-of-a-kind environments, each tailored to the client’s unique taste, with an emphasis on skillfully executed, flawless detail. Contour is lauded in its industry for its integration of design innovation, construction expertise, and business acumen. Her lavish residential, commercial and hospitality interiors have won her national acclaim as she has been recognized as one of the top designers in the country by Hospitality Design Magazine, Interior Design Magazine, NBC and BRAVO TV to name a few. In addition to her many accolades, she was deemed “The Design Industry’s Next It Girl” by POPSUGAR 2014 and was called “The Breakout Star” by RUE Magazine 2014. Nina received a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, with post-graduate studies in Architecture and Design at The Art Institute of Houston.

In 2013, Nina was hand-picked by Oprah Winfrey’s interior designer, Nate Berkus, to appear on NBC’s American Dream Builders in which 12 of the most notable, respected and established designers and builders from around the country competed to win the title of the first American Dream Builder. Nina was a semi-finalist in this national competition and was continuously praised for her high level of taste and aesthetics. She also landed a Lowe’s Home Improvement commercial that aired during the season finale. In 2016, she was selected to be one of the 25 participants nationwide by Housing Works and Elle Decor Magazine to participate in Design On A Dime Miami.

Nina is a notable designer and has won several awards in residential, commercial and hospitality design, including “Best of Year Honoree by Interior Design Magazine, “Counter Culture Finalist” in the Hospitality Magazine Awards, ” Faces of Design Finalist” by HGTV and many ASID & Houzz awards for Best Designer in several categories. She also sits on the Board of Designers for Zillow and speaks on design subjects at industry events around the country.

Nina is a member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), Interior Design Society (IDS), American Association of Interior Designers (ASID), the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA), National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), and Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce (GHWCC). She is philanthropic to many non-profit organizations including Dec My Room, The Women’s Home, Pratham, Hope Endowment, Texas Children’s Hospital and has chaired events for Unicef and Pin Oak Charities to name a few.

Currently, she splits her time between managing her offices and developing new licensing collections under the growing Nina Magon, Inc. brand.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many obstacles. From trying to establish a reputable design business, in getting clients, it has definitely been an uphill journey.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Contour Interior Design, Inc. – what should we know?
We are a full-service design firm specializing in residential, commercial and hospitality design. We specialize in modern and forward-thinking design and are heavily influenced by the European approach to design and are inspired by international design ways.

Our team is an international team comprised of people from all over the world who bring a completely different and unique perspective to design. We are extremely collaborative which in the end creates the most beautiful designs.

I am proud of the team I have built and proud of how all of them have grown.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am very authentic to my brand and have a very strong sense of commitment to the brand. I have stayed true to myself and my beliefs and have worked through all the hurdles that this business has thrown at me. It is definitely not the easiest business to be in, but is extremely rewarding.
