Still in his twenties, this young, Black CEO took his passion for event planning and design and created his own company, Norman Houston Events, LLC.
Based in Houston, Texas, Norman produces unique and personalized weddings and events in Houston, the Midwest and throughout the United States, specializing in all weddings. Norman is a native of Toledo, Ohio and a proud HBCU graduate of Central State University, where he discovered his niche for event planning and design. Norman begins planning events after, his Aunt gave him his first break at the age of 16. Norman believes no two event experiences should ever be the same or make you leave feeling the same way you did before attending. If you ever experience one of Norman’s breathtaking weddings or event experiences, you’re guaranteed to utter a “WOW!” or shed a tear.
Norman has built his professional career through various platforms such as; Hotel Management with such profound brands such as: Marriott, IHG, Royal Sonesta Hotels, and More… Norman is definitely living his best life, doing what he loves to do. In the midst of making his clients’ dreams come true and fulfilling his own, you can catch Norman on the social scene in Houston, serving as the VP of the young adult choir at his church (Wheeler Ave Baptist), Operations Manager & Planner at one of Texas leading Event Design and Rental Company’s Décor 2 Remember. Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I can honestly say, this has not been an easy journey. But, I will not trade it for anything the world, because my challenges have strengthened me physically, professionally and mentally. Each day, I’m growing and learning more. I must say much help to my strong support system of friends, family(NHE right hand; Angela Johnson), church, and industry professionals. One of my biggest influencers, I must say is my partner in crime (good crime, lol) Valerie Rooney of D2R Design House (Formally known as Decor2Remember). Some of the struggles I’ve encountered getting to this place in life is:
– Taking the risk of leaving corporate America (steady 9-5) to pursue my business dreams.
– sacrificing so much of my time and resources to see that not only my own but other’s event dreams come true.
– being in such a popular Market, finding my voice and unique niche to set me apart from others in the industry.
As I stated, it’s a constant learning experience and growing experience. A couple of the major things that has helped me with my struggles is Networking and not be afraid to activate my Faith and step out of the box.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have spent EVEN more time with three of the few most influential in my career:
My Godmother (Lillian China), Childhood Event Mentor and neighborhood mom (Trazon Harris), and my 2nd Mom, my Madea/Grandmother (Ella Pickett). Every event I do is truly dedicated to them, whom I miss so much.
