Meet Olivia Genesis of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Genesis.

Hi Olivia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Olivia Génesis, and I am an 11-year-old Afro-Latina actress, recording artist, author, model, and performer from the Houston area. I have loved telling stories and entertaining people for as long as I can remember. What began with a natural love for acting, singing, and being onstage grew into opportunities in film, television, commercials, theater, music, modeling, and hosting.

My journey has taken me from local Houston-area events and productions like Da’Yana Dreams, to performing and modeling on stages in New York, Los Angeles and other cities. I have appeared in films and streaming projects, including B.A.S.H., Rhythm and Revenge, Transcend, Trust Me or Trust Me Not, Twisted Sister, and [Baby] Mama Nada. My performance in [Baby] Mama Nada received international recognition, including Best Emerging Actress at the 2025 Stockholm City Film Festival, Best Supporting Actress at the 2025 Cinematic European Film Festival, and Best Supporting Actress in a Feature Film at the South Film and Arts Academy Festival 2025. In 2026, I was also honored to receive the Youth Artist Academy Award for Best Supporting Performance by a Youth Actress in a Streaming Series for my role in Vid Chronicles. That moment meant so much to me because it reminded me that hard work, preparation, and believing in yourself can lead to amazing opportunities.

Music is another important part of my story. I love singing, writing songs, and creating music that makes other kids feel happy, confident, and inspired. I have released original songs and music videos, including “Candy Daze!” and “Ice Cream Glow.” “Candy Daze!” has received recognition from several film and music festivals, including an award for Best Choreography at the Europe Music Video Awards, Best Kid’s Film at the International Black & Diversity Film Festival and recognition at the GramoFrame Music Awards for Best Kids Music Video. I have also had the opportunity to perform at special events in Houston and throughout the country, including the Youth Artist Academy pre-awards celebration in LA and the New York Fashion Week.

I am also the author of the children’s book Dear Dream Chaser: You Can Be Anything!, which encourages young people to dream big and believe that they do not have to choose only one passion. I have been able to share that message through book signings, youth events, and an author reading at Children’s Museum Houston.

Along the way, I have continued training in acting, singing, dancing, piano, modeling, and martial arts. I am bilingual in English and Spanish, a youth Black Belt in Krav Maga, and very proud of both my African American and Mexican American heritage. Balancing school, training, auditions, performances, and projects is not always easy, but my family’s support helps me stay focused and grounded.

I am grateful for every person who has believed in me and every opportunity that has helped me grow. I know I am still at the beginning of my story, and I am excited to continue learning, creating, and using my gifts to inspire other young dreamers—especially children who may not always see someone like themselves represented.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not always been a smooth road. Working in entertainment comes with a lot of rejection, waiting, and uncertainty. There have been many auditions that did not lead to a role and opportunities that did not work out, even after I prepared and gave my best. Because I started at such a young age, I have had to continue training and working on my craft to show that I am prepared, professional, and capable of taking on meaningful roles.
Breaking into Houston’s independent film community also took time. I had to earn the trust of filmmakers and prove myself through each opportunity I received. I am grateful to the producers and directors who took a chance on me because those experiences helped me grow and opened doors for me. I also hope my journey helps create more opportunities for other young performers in Houston, especially children from diverse backgrounds who want to see themselves represented on screen.
Music has brought its own challenges. Not everyone initially believed in me as a singer or recording artist, so I had to learn not to let other people’s opinions determine what I believed about myself. I continued taking lessons, practicing, recording, writing, and performing. Over time, my work has begun to receive recognition, and seeing people connect with my songs reminded me to keep going even when others did not immediately understand my vision.
Balancing everything can also be difficult. I am still a student, so I have to manage school, homework, training, auditions, rehearsals, filming, performances, and travel. Many of our family trips are for work instead of vacations or visits with relatives. I am grateful for the opportunities, but they also require sacrifices from my entire family and for that I am really thankful to have the support of my family.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a young actress, recording artist, songwriter, author, model, film producer and host. Although I work in several areas of entertainment, everything I do connects through storytelling. Whether I am bringing a character to life on screen, performing an original song, walking the runway, or sharing my book with children, I want people to feel something and leave believing more is possible for them.
As an actress, I enjoy roles that allow me to express real emotion, show personality, and connect with the audience. I have worked in film, television, commercials, and theater, and I am especially proud of the growth that each role has brought me. One of my proudest accomplishments was winning the 2026 Youth Artist Academy Award for Best Supporting Performance by a Youth Actress in a Streaming Series, this was my third nomination and first win. I am also proud that my performance in [Baby] Mama Nada received several international acting awards. Those honors were exciting, but I am most proud of knowing that the work I put into developing each character was seen and appreciated.
I also work behind the scenes as a producer. I have produced my own music videos, helping develop the concepts and shape how my songs are brought to life visually. Some of my film and television production credits include serving as co-executive producer of B.A.S.H. and Vashti’s Halloween Adventure, executive producer of Damsel and Beneath the Bridge, and associate producer of [Baby] Mama Nada and Naughty or Nice. Working both in front of and behind the camera has taught me about the planning, teamwork, decision-making, and problem-solving required to complete a project. I am especially proud that I am learning how to create opportunities—not only wait for them—and I hope to help tell meaningful stories while opening doors for other young performers.
As a recording artist, I like to make positive, family-friendly music that encourages confidence, joy, and self-expression. My original songs include “Candy Daze!,” “Birthday Dreams,” and “Ice Cream Glow.” I love being involved throughout the creative process, from developing the concept and recording the vocals to performing and helping bring the music videos to life. It has been especially meaningful to see “Candy Daze!” receive recognition at film and music festivals.
I am also the author of Dear Dream Chaser: You Can Be Anything!, a children’s book inspired by my own experience of having many different interests and dreams. The message is very personal to me because I do not believe children should feel pressured to place themselves in only one box. I am proud that I have been able to read the book to children, meet young readers, and encourage them to explore all their gifts. Copies of Dear Dream Chaser: You Can Be Anything! are available on my website (https://oliviagenesis.com/dear-dream-chaser) and will soon be available on Amazon.
What sets me apart is the combination of my experiences, interests, and cultural background. I am a youth Black Belt in Krav Maga, which has taught me discipline, confidence, focus, and resilience. My martial arts training also gives me skills that I can bring to physical or action-based roles.
I believe my versatility is one of my greatest strengths. I can move from an emotional scene to a recording session, runway, speaking engagement, or martial arts training, while still bringing my own personality to everything I do. I am known for being hardworking, energetic, prepared, and encouraging to the people around me. More than any award or title, I am proud that I can use my talents to represent other young Afro-Latina girls and inspire children to believe that they can pursue more than one dream.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned is that growth never stops. I am still young, and I know there are so many more lessons for me to learn, but this journey has already taught me to stay teachable, keep working, and not allow one “no” to make me give up on myself.

In entertainment, not every audition leads to a role, every song connects immediately, or every opportunity happens when you expect it to. I have learned that rejection does not always mean I was not talented or prepared. Sometimes a role was meant for someone else, and sometimes a “no” is simply guiding me toward a different opportunity. What matters is learning from the experience, continuing to train, and being ready when the right door opens.

I have also learned that success is not only about awards, bookings, or recognition. It is about how much I grow, how I treat people, and whether I continue to enjoy what I am doing. I want to remain grateful, kind, hardworking, and open to learning from my family, teachers, coaches, directors, and everyone I meet along the way.

I am proud of how far I have come, but I also know I am just getting started.
