Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Uranga.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Creating has always been my side hobby. Drawing cartoons as a kid, then comics, then finally to AP art course. All, of course, put to the side to get an engineering degree. New job in Aerospace landed us in Houston. NASA, rockets, missions and space inspiration. Still, always looking for that creative outlet, but never finding the time. Then with the birth of my son, I turned to photography. I wanted to capture our lives more and more. I was never satisfied with the point and shoot Casio. Blown out pictures, out of focus, this is not how I wanted to remember us. So – then it began… small DSLR. Youtube. And mistakes. However I was hooked……hooked, Lightroom and sinker of lots of money into equipment and personal projects. Ten years have gone past, and now I’ve added Automotive, travel, wildlife, photoshop composites, night photography, double exposures and my favorite – portraits. Now my side hobby is my creative outlet permanently.
Please tell us about your art.
I look at my progression over ten years and realized that I had to imitate so many. Only recently found my own take on portraits. Always worried that I was using the newest techniques or lighting modifiers. Finally saying – screw it. I know what I like and the folks that are paying me like it, then art well done. I hope I can convey a story with my shot. Composition, lighting, exposure, golden hour and all the technical jargon bs that gets wrapped in my head is now finally be tossed to the side. I know what I like, and some will like it too, And that’s good enough for me.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Success in my photography is always enjoying it and not feeling like its a job or defines me. I’ll be happy with that metric.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can see my work and contact me for a shoot.
Favorite personal project are always halloween composites, https://rocketfoto.smugmug.com/Client-Work/Family-Portraits/Halloween-Portraits/Uranga-Halloween
