Robin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Tabahani Fragrances was inspired by a book I had written in 2013 about what it meant to be the fragrant aroma of Christ. I had talked about the process and preservation of fragrance in additional to discussing a few perfumes from a spiritual perspective, but God laid it on my heart to make them… naturally. Many perfumes on the market advertised to lust and the outer appearance but none focused on the character of inner beauty, real substance. I had always been a “perfumista,” but the Lord had other plans for me to become a perfumer representing the kingdom. There I was in my perfumery kitchen, prayed up and ready for what God called me to do. Through trial and error, sleepless nights studying perfume charts and aromatherapy concepts and a perfume diary filled with notes in every corner of the page, handcrafting the Tabahani Fragrance line.
The perfumes in my collection are faith-based and plant-based with names such as Beauty for Ashes, Midnight Praise, Pure Heart and Heaven’s Dew. The overall focus of the message of Tabahani Fragrances is character. Sadly, the presence of true character is missing today. Character is either superficial or hidden for fear of what others may think. I happen to combine the influence of character spiritually and naturally through fragrance. By default, when we put on perfume, it’s never just for us as it affects everyone within our atmosphere, all within our sphere of influence and that’s powerful! The same is true for all. Our character–no matter how sweet or sour has great influence on those around us. Our mission as believers is to spread the fragrant aroma of the knowledge of Jesus Christ, emitting the fragrance of life everywhere we may be.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No smooth roads here.
I am a single mother and I am full-time active duty Air Force, currently in my 19th year of service. Both together atop of going to school and now running a business can be quite the challenge. Single motherhood is the toughest job in the world, but it has been the most rewarding. Serving has been the greatest challenge and it also carries reward. People see the glitz and the respect of the uniform, rave about the benefits and opportunities which are indeed awesome but tend to forget the seriousness of what me and my other brothers and sisters sacrifice in uniform. We choose to step up and say I’ll serve my country with my life. There are families–moms, dads, daughters and sons who give up their lives with the service member. In my case, it’s just me and the kiddo. The start and stop of moving, new schools, new neighborhoods, new job positions, it’s stressful. However, a service member has greater responsibility than the general public as more is expected. As a single mother trying to make duty, home and school balance work out, it’s hard, but it’s doable. Thank God for always being there supplying all of our needs, no matter what the tempo in our lives. In both service and motherhood, quitting is not optional. My oh my, the prayers I’ve prayed and the tears I have cried out to God I thank God for his grace, strength and peace-giving me the ability and the capacity to juggle it all. There is nothing that my God and me can’t do, for nothing is impossible with Him.
Tabahani Fragrances – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Tabahani Fragrances is an online Christian faith-based perfume boutique in Houston, Texas. We help women discover their signature fragrance. We make upscale clean beauty perfumes for kingdom-minded women and those yet to be.
I am most proud that we offer perfumes that nourish the skin and uplift the spirit.
What sets us apart from other companies within our niche, is that our perfumes are faith-based (inner focused), plant-based and alcohol-free. Our perfumes do not dry out the skin. Being oil-based allows the fragrances to linger longer than the average designer perfume on the market.
We are known for our signature purple and white-glove experience. We know what royalty feels like and strive to provide a one-of-a kind grand experience with each client and all the more with the arrival opening of their package.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career as a perfumer has been when I received my company registration papers. I opened the envelope and read through the details and when I came upon the EIN, I was overjoyed! I was just grinning from ear to ear. I couldn’t believe it had happened! I was officially a business owner. That was a major landmark in my life as so much opposition had occurred beforehand and, in that moment, I held victory in my hands! Generational curse-breaker! I shouted all over my house, praising the Lord for this win.
