Today we’d like to introduce you to Roger (Jose Rogelio) Ramirez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Roger (Jose Rogelio). So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Mexico City on July 12, 1984 into a musical family. My parents decided to come to the US (Houston, Texas) in 1993 for a better life for us due to many hardships in Mexico.
I played and studied music all throughout Elementary, Junior High, High School and College years. I have played many instruments like the Trombone, Trumpet, Saxophone, Clarinet, Piano, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums and have played with all genres of bands.
During my college years, I wanted to start a band of my own and I started writing original tunes but at the time, I couldn’t afford to pay a recording studio so I decided to slowly start investing into building something for myself paid by gigging and working. After a few years, I finally had enough saved to start a small recording studio at my dad’s house where I started to have recording sessions and recording artists.
After a few years in the scene, I really wasn’t seeing the support from the music scene like I was envisioning. I started to feel like I was getting stuck so I decided to close shop and dedicate myself to just my job.
I started working for Houston Methodist Hospital in the AV (Audio Visual Department) and eventually got to meet a few medical educators who started asking me about my music and so I directed them to my YouTube channel so that they could see a few videos that I had done. A few weeks later, I get an offer to be the Education Technology Administrator for the Debakey Heart and Vascular Center so I took it.
Once I started my new job, I started exploring with the Idea of exploring with live streaming live surgeries for educational purposes to a YouTube Channel. Once I started to do this successfully, I guess it was just a matter of time to where my two worlds would collide, music and live streaming.
It was at this moment where It became clear to me to what I wanted to do. I decided to build a new recording studio where I could live stream live bands to a social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Twitch but still keep that recording studio quality of the audio and video. I decided that I wanted to do something good for the music community and that I was going to help the bands that needed and wanted help but didn’t have the means to do it.
I decided that I wasn’t going to charge bands for this service. As a young musician myself I never received the support from the music community and now I wanted to break that cycle and give all bands a chance to put their music out there with good quality Audio and Video.
R&R Studio was born a few years later. I moved to a new location and after lots of sacrifices, I finally accomplished my goal. Houston’s First Online Live Performance Venue was born. We opened up in August 2019 and have currently done over 150 live bands and musical acts. Our Motto is Keeping Live Music Live.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely has had its challenges.
I have lost a few my jobs and at times, I would have to put the project on hold. Getting all the equipment necessary and funding this operation has taken a lot of sacrifice from my family. I have not had any sponsors during this process so everything has been funded through me and it’s been difficult at times.
Although life has been a bit rough for my family and I, I have been very fortunate to have the support of my family throughout this project.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with R&R Studio (Houston’s First Online Live Performance Venue) – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We are R&R Studio (Houston’s First Online Live Performance Venue)
We are a full working recording studio and are available for booking recording sessions.
We are also a live streaming recording studio, we have a Social Media show where we interview the bands that come here and they will perform a full live show for Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Twitch. Our show is done at no cost for the bands.
What makes me most proud of what we do is that we know that we are doing something good for the music community. Giving all bands the same opportunity as the bigger bands to put their content out and showcase their music.
What sets us apart from any live stream show is that we do the show from our recording studio, it is equipped with 11 cameras and Isolation booths to ensure the best quality of the sound. This is all done live real time. No post-production or editing.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I feel like Houston is a great place for what we do. There is a lot of untapped talent here that goes unnoticed.
We have been doing our live show for eight months now and I had no idea that there was as many bands as I have met and I know that there are lots more that we haven’t reached or that haven’t heard about what we are doing.
There is a lot of greed in the music community and a lot of musicians get passed over because they don’t know the right person or the right person just doesn’t like them. Our platform at R&R Studio will give those musicians that aren’t able to have a place to gig at the opportunity to perform their music and share it with the world literally. It will be recorded online forever.
There is a bigger potential to be heard all over the world with our platform and reach more potential viewers than just playing locally at a bar.
