Meet Rossy Bustamante

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rossy Bustamante.

Rossy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I studied cosmology ten years ago in Mexico, but I always had a special love for makeup and for styling hair. I have always been the go to person for makeup and hairstyling for family and friends. When I moved to the United States, it was difficult to validate my diploma and license from Mexico, so I could not work in any salon, but not wasting any time, found jobs I could do related to what I loved to do. I started to do make up for all occasions, hairstyles and got certified in eyelash extensions.

These were parts and pieces of my end goal to being a certified cosmetologist. I was constantly taking makeup and hairstyling courses trying to improve everywhere I could and learn new things. I had the honor to be a student of makeup icons such as Maurice Stein (founder of Cinema Secrets), Jennifer Conejo, and Eve Pearl. Years went by and I decided to try for my Texas license for cosmetology again. I told myself, if they don’t give it to me, I will go back to study again. Luckily I have now had my Texas license for two years. Hair wise, I love to do everything from cuts, blowdries, and color, but being completely honest, my passion is makeup.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Working in this field is not easy, I’ve dealt with bad days from one day clients washing their faces because they did not like my work to someone who took the dryer from my hands because I did not know how to properly dry hair. My point is you can have bad experiences, but I also want to show you that you will have wonderful experiences that make you forget the bad and you will succeed! Today after many struggles, I think I am in a great place where I am becoming known more for my work, where I feel safe and happy with my work.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I do everything that has to do with cosmetology, but I think I am better known for my work as a makeup artist, I have already had the opportunity to be a music video makeup artist, I have worked with models and I am the official makeup artist for Ernesto Photography. I am very happy to be where I am because I never imagined getting here. It was just like a dream.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment for me was when my firstborn niece Stephanie asked me to do her hair and makeup for her wedding. Seeing everything put together and seeing her so happy and beautiful made me feel really proud.
