Meet Sandra Showalter of It’s Your Turn Photography in West i-10 Corridor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Showalter.

Sandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started as a ‘momographer’ while living overseas in Dubai. Upon returning to the United States, I knew that I needed to pick something that I could take with me anywhere in the world. Loving photography, there didn’t seem to be any other choice. So, I started studying, going to local events, finding mentors, and started a business.

I have went through many genres of photography, but have found myself continually drawn to contemporary portraits and composite fine artwork.

But the photography experience isn’t everything to me.

I also strive to help tweens and teens with life skills. It is my goal to start an “It’s Your Turn” summer day conference using local businesses to help share life skills that these kiddos can take away and start using.

Body Language: How to read an interview and what they may be giving away
Health: Nutritional specialists presenting how to eat healthy from the dorm room to the cafeteria
Yoga: Teach ways to relieve stress with stretches that can be done while studying
Key Note Motivational Speaker about finding your purpose, as it changes, embracing it and surrounding yourself with that community.
Self-Defense: Some tricks of what to watch for when out jogging or walking from the dorm to class, and how to use your surrounding to protect yourself.

Through this, we will also give parents how to cope after kids leave the nest, and certain challenges for them to teach their teens while home: Changing tires, how to cook some simple stove-top meals, how to iron their clothes for that interview.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth? Everyone is a photographer so standing out from the rest was a struggle. That is until I finally banged my head a few too many times and realized that what I offer isn’t the everyday photographer. Because it is something much more than a picture. But an internal healing, boost of confidence and energy level that may be missing when we are drawn to a routine way of life.

It’s Your Turn Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a portrait photographer. I specialize in building energy and confidence within tweens, teens, adults, young adults, and entrepreneurs through a photography session. With styling clothes and saying how they fit them comfortable, to body language that helps them feel more confident. I am known for the experience of a photo session. I’m not afraid to try something creative or let my clients throw in some ideas. Each session is individualized for that person. That’s why you won’t really find any sessions with the same theme or feel.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is knowing that my clients are waking up that next day ready to accomplish whatever they had been setting out to do. That they have the little bit more energy and confidence to complete it beyond expectations. Whether a college or job interview or meeting with a client.
