Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Mejia.
Brittany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was 19 in college, had a part time job, and as lost as I was, I always had an interest in retail. I originally applied for a retail position at SF2 because I was already familiar with the store, liked the different streetwear brands/items they carried and I thought they could use my help!
Not even two months in, I was asked if I would like to learn to do embroidery! I was excited because I have always had an eye for details and I love clothes! When I was about 12 years old, I remember my cousin and I would go to the craft store, buy fabric paint and customize our clothes since we didn’t really have the money to buy name brands. My grandfather is a tailor in California, and I remember seeing him do beautiful work for celebrities. I always thought that was so cool!
Fast forward to today, five years later, I am doing something quite similar, because our client list is pretty amazing! I think it’s an honor to work here and it’s a blessing that I am able to work in this type of field, finding something that I love to do. Especially in the city that I love so much!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say that in my life and in my job, I have been blessed however, there have been opportunities to grow and learn from. Our focus is on what moves us forward, anything else, we deal with it and continue to elevate.
Please tell us about SF2 .
As a company, we were known first as retailers, however we have so many layers to all of the things we have done and continue to do. From retail, underground hip hop and art shows, meet and greets, to customizing. We have and continue to do so much. It is pretty difficult to summarize the history of SF2 unless it is a documentary! We have worked with almost everyone, a lot of the legends from Houston and hip hop royalty! For example, the UGK shirt I am wearing was made 12 years ago to be worn at the late great Pimp C’s funeral. We have it as a sample to show our work. It is a piece of history and is not for sale! Sorry guys!
Although I do a little bit of everything, my specialty is embroidery.
What I am most proud of as a company is that we continue to grow, and our referral business is great. Everyone knows who to call when you need fast turnaround with top quality, that would be us!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When I was a kid and I would see the carnival rides being put up in lot at Greenspoint mall, I would get so excited to tell my parents to take me. I remember getting the wristband, which was everything because you could go on ALL the rides!
