Today we’d like to introduce you to Shay Boogie.
Shay, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started writing in High School at the age of 16, in the Bronx. I then began writing to music and tried my hand at rapping. I didn’t take it seriously enough to record a project until I relocated to Houston, TX in 2003. I wrote and recorded my 1st mixtape “Ladies First Vol. I” followed by my 1st full album titled “Flow N’ Hustle.” I was then contacted by a college internet radio station by the name of Reewine Radio to host my own radio show. I jumped at the opportunity, especially since I have wanted to get involved in radio for a few years. From there, I had the opportunity to interview local artists such as Doughbeezy and Tawn P, and mainstream artists such as Lady Luck, Lola Monroe aka Queen Roe, Lil Chuckie, Masspike Miles, 40 Glocc, and many others. From there, I decided to work and play by my own rules. I started Hip Hop Late Nights in 2014, and we have been rolling ever since. Today I am CEO of HHLN, COO of Earklectic Ent, Co-Owner of SAVIIJ Apparel, and working on a new project produced by Dre Moore and Trakksounds of IMIX Studios!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Along the journey, I have had people laugh in my face, doors closed because I didnt illicit sex as a rapper. Publishers have fraudulently changed percentages on royalties, and overall I lost a lot of friends and family members due to lack of support or just a belief in what I was doing. This road is not for the faint of heart or the easily discouraged, but all you need is God and belief in your self!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Hip Hop Late Nights is a platform for artists to show how they create these magical hits in the studio. We set up sessions with artists in hopes of capturing the process it takes to create a hit. From beat selection, lyrics, recording, to mixing and mastering. We also specialize in blogging about underground artists. We believe that this is the stage when an artist is at its rawest. I am most proud to be in business for over five years and have recently collaborated with MTAC Branding out of Chicago, Illinois. What sets us apart from others is that we do not speak negatively about artists. We would rather spotlight their talent as opposed to their personal business. We are truly focused on providing a viewpoint rarely seen by the consumers and assist the artist in promoting their music.
Also, we are always looking for artists to blog about and they should reach out to us at the information provided below.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Integrity! I’m not worried about how fast I can make it to the top, but rather more concerned with the quality of material we provide to the public. Hardwork and dedication is important to success, and 2020 is the year that we are setting out to accomplish many more goals and establish more business relationships. Network! Network! Network!
