Meet Spencer Moore of Fancy Apartments in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Spencer Moore.

Spencer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for entrepreneurship, so I knew I had to be in a market where how much I work would determine the value I produce. I became a licensed real estate agent at age 19. After two years in college, I wasn’t feeling inspired and knew I had to get out in order to chase my passion with 100 percent dedication.

The broker I was working for at the time only gave me apartment rental leads because I was so young, but I quickly found that focusing on apartments rather than homes was a great place to find scale and simplicity. I was able to focus my effort and create a system that would eventually allow me to create my own brokerage with eight agents and quickly growing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been relatively smooth, but there were definitely challenges along the way. Deciding to leave a secure path of acquiring a four-year degree was a bit of a controversial decision for my family, but I knew it was what I had to do. I had to learn to manage myself as a business at a relatively young age.

I’m passionate about the work I do, but the sheer amount of hours I have to put in every week are definitely challenging. I have to be 100 percent focused all the times and be ready to answer client/team questions whenever they arise.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fancy Apartments story. Tell us more about the business.
I own a real estate brokerage that specializes in helping people find their dream apartment in Houston. My agents and I are constantly keeping up with new developments in every major neighborhood, so we are able to give expert advice on recommend apartments based on the criteria of our clients. Whether it’s massive walk-in closets, being close to work or places to wine and dine, or even a high-rise view, we are able to send our tailor-made listings every time.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
None. It has all been hard work and dedication. The only luck is living in such a great place like Houston.
