Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven and Cindy Reddy.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Cindy and I had a marketing business which serviced the Auto Industry in Texas. We provided a Direct Mail service for the sales, service and safety recalls of individual auto dealerships. In the process, we were driving by hundreds of businesses on our way to the next Auto Dealer. Cindy thought the process was wasteful and wanted to call on other business categories that we were blissfully driving by.
In 2007, we began calling on other businesses and discovered that they needed things that we could provide. It was now apparent that our marketing services had value to other types of businesses. So, we expanded and began offering graphic design, printing, direct mail and website design to all types of businesses. We now have clients that are attorneys, doctors, retail stores, caterers, vacation rental companies and politicians during their election process. Who knew? Obviously, Cindy did!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Business always provides a challenge from time to time. We have struggled with cash flow, employees and technology to name a few. Then, there is growing your business. That is always an issue for nearly every business. A stagnant business is rarely long for the world. You must find new clients. Or, they must find you! Marketing your business successfully is the key to a lasting business. Controlled growth that you can handle and manage properly is always a test for business owners.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Select Marketing story. Tell us more about the business.
Select Marketing offers marketing services that include Graphic Design, LOGO Design, Printing Services, Direct Mail, Website Design, Website Management & SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Today’s websites function as yesterday’s Yellow Pages. It is where you go for information. I need a Dentist in Portland, OR. Are there any Plumbers in Stage Coach, TX? Where is the closest Chinese Restaurant? All that and everything else you can think of has representation on the Internet.
We have evolved with the technology changes in America and have helped others do the same! I think that is what sets us apart. We understand the importance of Customer Service. Stay in touch with your clients. Without them, you don’t have a business!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I was born in America. That’s about as lucky as it gets. Had I been born in any other country, my chances of having a good life would have been seriously diminished. Had I been born in any of the third world countries, my chances of survival would have been difficult at best.
I met my wife Cindy. That’s equally lucky.
Lucky things happen to all of us and all businesses, too! Knowing that a lucky opportunity has crossed your path requires awareness and foresight. Not everyone has that skill. Was Bill Gates lucky? Was Donald Trump lucky? I think a lot more than luck was involved in their lives. Making good decisions as it relates to your business is more important than luck.
