Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Morgan.
Ashley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I realized after working my accounting job for 2 years that I was unhappy with my life. I felt as if all of my time was being wasted fulfilling someone else’s agenda, and I was not adding any value to my life or others. So, after searching for what I wanted to do, I decided to start a plus size fashion blog to help women like myself with style and confidence. I have battled and survived low self esteem, bullying and even a suicide attempt. What I created had to give value to women that have went through the things I did.
After running my blog for a year, I decided to branch out to YouTube, and build a community there as well. I love being more visible to my audience through video and connecting with them in a more authentic way. Hearing positive feedback from women that have had to struggle with their confidence on how my blog or channel has helped them feel good about themselves, has really given me the feeling that what I do is valuable to my community.
Though my audience is small, we are positive and loving to one another. I love connecting with them, and they make me so happy that I decided to build this family 2 years ago.
Has it been a smooth road?
There has definitely been some tough roads. Actually, I’m sort of going through one now.
I had an anxiety attack in May, and ever since then it has been a struggle for me to get the energy to create content for my blog and channel. I have been talking with a therapist to help me get back on track. Slowly but surely, I am headed in the right direction and creating content again.
My advice for anyone trying to start a blog and YouTube channel is to know your limits before you decide to start anything. Yes, it is so common to hear about the person who works their 9 to 5 job then comes home and works on their side business until midnight, but is that the right path for you?
I know now that I have to pace myself. I need to be able to take my time and enjoy my life while I enjoy the content I create. The “hustle” mentality does not allow me to do that, so that’s not what I am going to do. The more stressed I am the less I can connect with the people I care about, God, my family, and my community.
We’d love to hear more about From Head To Curve.
On my blog, I give great life and fashion advice paired with relatable and stylish photos. I tend to get personal about life lessons that I have learned from building confidence to being able to wear what ever outfit I decide.
My YouTube channel is fun and upbeat. I love creating fashion hauls for my audience, and they absolutely love my since of humor. I also create great beauty, and lifestyle content on both platforms.
My community loves that I keep everything honest with them. They trust my opinion, because I am not afraid to say how I really feel about products or brands.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I can be awkward at times, so I always have to remind myself not to be afraid to be me.
If you are being your true self, the people who are supposed to be in your life will appreciate you. You will also run away those that are not meant to be in your life. Either way it’s a win, so you might as well get comfortable being you because you have nothing to lose.
