Today we’d like to introduce you to Muskan Manzoor.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have loved fashion my whole life. However, growing up in Bangladesh, I wasn’t surrounded by high fashion or glamour magazines. My first peek into style and beauty was through my mom’s red lipstick. I became mesmerized by her classic look. I knew I wanted to be just as stylish as her when I grew up. I saw my chance in 2013 when I moved to Houston to explore a world of fashion that I never knew existed. Even then, I was still afraid to wear outfits that were considered eye-catching or unique. At the beginning of high school, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and start expanding my passion for design and style into social media. During that time, I found a special love for thrifting and upcycling which later became the foundation of my blog. I slowly moved into styling my sophomore year of high school when I was awarded an internship at a local boutique called Lush.
Then in 2018, I became a Nordstrom Fashion Ambassador at the Houston Galleria. I started my blog as a way to share my own creative perspective of fashion, lifestyle, and beauty content. While it all started with a few pictures from my iPhone 5, I now collaborate with different photographers across Houston. I was even featured in Styles of Houston founded by Ryne Williams. I love photography as well even though my area of focus is fashion. My photography work has been featured in Museum of Fine Arts Houston as well as the Houston Center for Photography. Where I am right now was never planned to be honest. My creative hobbies started off as a pastime and now have turned into my life.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think the road is ever smooth for anyone. There are constant bumps and blocks that everyone comes across. For me personally, the most difficult part was believing in myself and caring a little less about what other people think. I am, however, the luckiest girl because of the support I receive from my family and friends. My biggest supporter in the creative field was definitely my art teacher Ms. Khan. She always pushed me to submit my work to the Museum exhibitions and inform me about photography programs. Her support helped me believe in myself and work very hard to get where I am today.
We’d love to hear more about Live With Mimi.
I am a fashion and lifestyle blogger but I occasionally do freelance styling. What sets me apart is that I started my creative platform very early in life. While every blogger is creative in their own way, I bring the perspective of the younger generation that grew up in the age of social media. I am most proud of where I am headed in life. I am currently a senior in high school and I will be attending college in New York in fall 2020 to study fashion business.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
I would tell other young girls to never give up on their dreams. Don’t focus on where most people are in life and just go at your own pace. Find a mentor that can help you succeed and learn more about whatever industry you want to go into.
