Meet Triston Shelton of Triston cole in Pearland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Triston Shelton.

Triston, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I remember when I was on summer break in High school, I was so bored at home practicing my makeup every day. My neighbor actually told me my makeup looked good and I should think about doing it professionally. I took that to heart and ran with it! I continued to practice daily then one day I came home from school and my mom told me she booked me a couple clients to do make up for a photo shoot. It was my very first-time doing makeup on anyone and getting paid for it. I thought to myself “fake it until you make it”! After that I began doing makeup for the proms and my school and even on my prom day. At the time I was 16 years old. I treated my makeup like a business and started free lancing. I attended college at Blinn junior college I wanted to major in business marketing cause my end goal was to always have my own business. A few years go by and I realized I hated school and I got the best makeup job opportunity EVER so I decided to do online school and for six months I was traveling the world doing makeup for a company called ‘Importal Labs’ we went to Greece, Hawaii, Dominican Republic, Vegas literally all over plus I had my other clients I was traveling with from all over Houston, Austin, Dallas and L.A, California. That was when I realized my career was taking off and it was such an amazing feeling. So here I am now at 23, I wanted another source of income and I was seeking more knowledge but I knew I wanted to stay in the beauty industry so now I’m officially in cosmetology school learning how to do hair. I will be graduating Fall 2020. I feel like I’m a double combo now. My end goal is to open up a few salons that offer all services as far as hair, makeup, waxing, facials etc.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would love to say that it was a smooth road but when you’re a kid with a dream and you have to decide do you want to follow your dream or fall into the normal society and get a real job that’s when it became a fight. I feel like I took the harder route in life cause I’ve had to figure everything out in my own. I decided not to finish college that’s what was best for me. I thought about giving up so many times but I knew I could never see myself doing anything else. This is what I love to do. I live by a motto I said to myself when I was a kid “there’s no plan B it will always be plan A” and my plan A has always been to have my own business. I’ve definitely struggled along the way but I have to trust the process and know that God had a plan for me.

Please tell us about your business.
I do hair and makeup. I specialize in body building stage makeup and editorial photography makeup. I’m known for doing makeup everyone that knows me knows that what I do. Right now, I’m most proud of the fact I traveled so much doing makeup and that I’m getting to educate myself more so I can expand my business to be better. I think what sets me apart from other artist is that I actually like to do body paint not a lot of people do that.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel like having tunnel vision is really important when you want to be successful. I only see what I want so I got my eye on the prize and I’m going to keep going until I get there.
