Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyrus Thomas.
Hi Tyrus , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always been a creative person. I’ve always had ideas in my head and wanted to find ways to bring them to life. Filmmaking and video production eventually became that outlet for me. What I love most about it is being able to take something that’s just an idea and turn it into something people can actually see, feel, and connect with.
Over the years, I’ve learned a lot through trial and error, from being behind the camera to editing and putting projects together. Being an independent filmmaker isn’t always easy, especially when you’re working with limited resources and have to wear multiple hats. I’ve worked on music videos and other productions, but my bigger goal has always been to create original films and shows that entertain people and tell stories they can relate to. I’m still learning, still growing, and nowhere near where I want to be, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited about what’s next.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth is subjective if you ask me. Have there been challenges? Absolutely, but that’s just part of the journey. I’ve dealt with setbacks, projects not going as planned, limited budgets, and the frustration of having a vision but not always having the resources to bring it to life. One thing I’ve learned is that you can’t let every obstacle stop you, especially in this industry. Sometimes you have to get creative, figure things out as you go, and keep pushing. I don’t look at those experiences as failures because every one of them taught me something. At the end of the day, I’m still here, still creating, still learning, and most importantly, still thriving.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do a little bit of everything when it comes to filmmaking. I shoot, edit, direct, and sometimes I’m the one trying to figure out how we’re going to pull the whole thing off. I’ve worked on, music, music videos, documentaries, short films, and I’ve been developing some of my own TV and film projects. I just love creating, whether it’s telling somebody else’s story or bringing one of my own ideas to life.
I think what I’m most proud of is that I haven’t let the lack of resources stop me from doing what I love. I’ve learned how to make things work with what I have, and sometimes that’s where the best creativity comes from.
As far as what sets me apart, I really don’t know. I think that’s something other people have to decide. I just try to stay true to myself, keep improving, and put out work I can be proud of. I’m not trying to be the next Spielberg or Tyler Perry. I’m just trying to make my own mark, tell some good stories, and enjoy the journey along the way.
Any big plans?
My biggest plan for the future is to keep creating and take things to another level. I’ve got a lot of ideas floating around in my head, and honestly, I just need more hours in the day to bring them all to life. I’m currently working on developing some original TV shows, films, and other creative projects that I’m really excited about.
I’d love to get to a point where I’m not just creating content but also opening doors for other talented people who may not have the opportunities or connections to get their work seen. There’s so much talent out here that goes unnoticed.
I’m not putting a timeline on everything because I’ve learned that life doesn’t always move according to our plans. But I definitely have some big goals, and I’m going to keep working toward them. Hopefully, the next time we have this conversation, I’ll have a few projects on somebody’s favorite streaming platform.
Pricing:
- I work with all budgets because I believe everybody deserves quality work, regardless of how much money they have to spend. My approach is simple: tell me your vision and what your budget looks like, and I’ll tell you what I can realistically bring to life within that budget. I can’t promise Hollywood production on a shoestring budget , but I can promise creativity, honesty, and quality work that makes the most of what you have. Let’s figure out what we can make happen!
