Monique Roberson of Beaumont on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Monique Roberson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Monique , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes I had went back to school for phlebotomy back in May and I passed my national exam, so now I am certified in phlebotomy

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! My name is Monique Roberson i am the owner of MoGlamorous Xperience. I am from Port Arthur, Tx. I have a 14 year old son who plays football & AAU basketball so that mean I am busy on the weekends. I work at Diamonds and Pearls salon in Beaumont, Tx. I am a loctician there and I’m opening up to learning more services. I been doing locs on and off since 2010 but I grew to love it back in 2022. It’s my passion and I also looking into making my own hair products so I can have passive income.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My sister Montoya, she’s no longer here but she knew I was built for the life I am living. She would always tell me how I encourage her and she’s the oldest. She always told me I was very wise for my age, when I say I’m going to do something I do it and I work hard for what I believe in. Sometimes I didn’t see it in myself coming up but now at the age of 36 I see it.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, I wanted to give up on my business due to not believing in myself, second guessing everything, not having clientele for weeks. I was listening to people telling me my prices were too high, or getting negative feedback when it wasn’t true. So instead of letting it beat me down I use it as power and gained my confidence, set boundaries, and learn how to ignore and market my business better. I kept praying and manifesting that things will get better and it’s working so far

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
No, I really keep to myself and like to be away from people honestly. I like to be at home it’s my peace. Now if I’m comfortable around people and know them they see the other side of me. The goofy, naturing, and love to cook me.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
At home, away from people, the outside noise. I know my son and I are safe.
