Today we’d like to introduce you to B. Sunflower.
Hi B., we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am an only child born and raised in Baltimore City, MD. I didn’t grow up in the best neighborhood but I made the best of it. Growing up I always had my head in a book, magazine or circular. I didn’t care what the genre was. It could be anything from a bible, medical book, encyclopedia, etc. I never would have imagined myself here as a published author but here I am.
I am a 100% disabled veteran and was actually stationed in Texas for a bit to start my recovery from my last deployment. While still in my recovery I was transferred to a base in Virginia and found out that I had breast cancer. When I was medically discharged from the military I had no idea where my life was headed. I saw the military as my end all be all. I was not only lost mentally but physically at that. During my time of finding myself again, I found my love for books again and it became a form of therapy for me.
One day I decided that I go for writing. I talked to my husband and my service animal, Ma$e, about it and everything went forward from there. With the support of my close friends and family my first book, Married on a Whim, was published in September 2025. Since then I have published three more books. Two of which are apart of my standalone series, Not Your Average Princess. I am currently now in the process of preparing for my first book signing on April 25, 2026.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As much as I would love to say this road has been smooth I can’t. I have shed tears and poured my heart out into all that I have done. There has been growing pains because as an Indie Author I have had to learn a lot of things through trial and error. Literally every single step involved in creating a book has been a struggle outside of writing the actual book.
Editing and formatting was pretty difficult for me in the beginning but I have gotten better on that front. Promo is still a hiccup for me because I tend to let the people know when the book is coming out, when it has released, and then I typically don’t say anything else about it. That is something that I have to work on but I am not used to having to promote myself for anything.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am retired. When I was in the military I held two positions throughout my career outside of my other federal positions. One was a Water Treatment Specialist and the other was a Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Specialist. Now, I am a stay at home mom who enjoys homesteading and bee keeping.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If there is anything on your heart that you have dreamt of doing, do it.
