Rising Stars: Meet Cameron Chin of Wallis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Chin

Hi Cameron, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2006, I opened Krawltex Motorsports in Austin, Texas. Our shop focused primarily on 4wd vehicles, specializing in modifications, customizations, repair and maintenance. In 2012, our family relocated to Las Vegas, where I rebranded and founded Nefarious Kustoms. As our Team grew, so did our services and specialties. We shifted the company to also perform race car prep and modifications, deeper metal fabrication including roll cage work, chassis design and other forms of metal fabrication. We also work on hotrods, muscle cars, rat rods, race cars and UTV’s. Cheyenne Ruether joined Nefarious in 2019, bringing in custom paint and autobody restoration. This allows us to build a complete restomod vehicle in house. A customer can bring us a shell of a vehicle for a one of a kind, turn key transformation. We handle the suspension, steering, drivetrain swap, interior, exterior, air conditioning, wiring, and much more. Over the years, we have been lucky enough to feature many of our vehicles at the annual SEMA Automotive Industry show and various magazines. In 2023, we reopened our sister company, Krawltex in Hutto, Texas (just outside Austin). And now in 2025, we have finished building our second Nefarious Kustoms in Wallis, Texas just west of Katy and south of Sealy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish we could claim it was always a smooth road. We have been blessed with amazing customers that have supported us through all our growth. In fact, we have had to do very little advertising thanks to “word of mouth.” That said, we are a luxury. So when ever the economy takes a dip, the phones ring a little less. Luckily, we have always had a variety of interesting jobs, and a great staff that has allowed us to succeed.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets Nefarious Kustoms apart from other shops is my staff. We all have some incredible backgrounds and interests that put a unique spin on the quality and aesthetic of our builds. “Aggressively Clean” is a mantra common in our work.

I cut my teeth on classic Mustangs, originally pushing a broom at the install shop of John’s Mustangs in Houston. From there, I worked at Performance Unlimited in Austin during my college years. This was my gateway to 4wd and automotive customization. During my time at the University of Texas, I graduated with a Bachelors in Studio Art. I try to approach every project with a bespoke, balanced approach to car building which will not be dated in 5 years. I am also a desert racer. To finish the Mint 400 or the Baja 1000… your work must be meticulous, over built, and well thought out. We implement race design in our metal fabrication to ensure cleanliness, strength, and weight reduction. Prerunner and race truck styling is an element we are known for.

Cheyenne is the most versatile painter we have ever worked with. She has over 15 years of experience in collision, autobody restoration and refinish. Cheyenne works with all budgets and can complete a small repair to a full rotisserie transformation. Her strengths range from glossy show finishes, metallics, candies, airbrush and patina work. Cheyenne’s family is heavily involved in dirt bike racing. Travis is our other painter. He excels in patina work and is well known for his custom airbrush style. He loves hotrods, dirt bikes, and is involved racing drift cars. Robert rounds us out with decades of metal shaping and panel beating experience. He is another motorcyclist.

Shifting back to metal fabrication and offroad racing… Micah is a phenomenal metal worker and suspension builder. He competes in long distance desert quad racing. Mike is an amazing craftsman. He has built many restomods with us from classic trucks, to 50’s hotrods. Mike spent several years prepping multiple Trophy Trucks and Unlimited Buggies. Ronnie came from a drag racing background and is a fantastic wrench. Brendan is a Drift Racer, and campaigns a highly modified 350Z.

We take all of our experiences and are able to develop very unique vehicles for our clients.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
All of us at Nefarious Kustoms are adrenaline junkies. But we take our calculated risks to the track, in our vehicles that we personally build and prep. Speed is the best form of stress relief one can experience. Our failures at a race are as humbling as our successes on and off the track.
