Hi Gregory, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
received an AAS in Paralegal Technology at the age of 35 in 2015. Not able to secure employment due to lack of experience, I went to work as a server in Biloxi, MS and I was making pretty good money at the time. However, due to my disability, I had difficulties in the workplace. I noticed a lot of businesses and their employees were not trained in handling people with unseen disabilities so I decided to stand up for the rights of people with disabilities and help enforce the Americans with Disabilities Act and other disability laws, so I started a business in 2022, due to the horrible working conditions for people with disabilities I was experiencing. I named the business Ameliorate Legal, LLC.
In the summer of 2022, I started business promotions, for small black business in Biloxi, MS. At this time I lived in an apartment in a gated community in Biloxi, MS, and working part time at Walk-On’s while you’re trying to start a business is not easy. To add insult to injury, I was constantly dealing with co-workers and employers, who were not properly handling not only me in respect to the ADA, but others with disabilities as well.
I filed my first lawsuit in Federal Court as a Pro Se Plaintiff, in Mobile, AL, in October of 2022. At the time, my business was helping pay my bills and I was working only part time. It was hard. To add insult to injury, I never worked for an attorney. Never been trained by an attorney. Didn’t have a law license… But I was crazy enough to think I could win.
Due to a situation at ANOTHER job I was not working at all, and I decided to take my business to Houston, TX in December of 2022, and went to stay with my father whom it was the first time I ever met. In Houston, I sought justice for the way the businesses and governments in Alabama and Mississippi were treating me, and I begin filing a series of lawsuits (18) from January 2023 until April of 2024. A lot of the cases never were served, I voluntarily dismissed, or the judge was requiring a payment for the service of the lawsuits, but of those first cases that I filed I faced an attorney 7 times and I only lost 1 time, which was my first case.
I also began to “ghostwrite” for customers. There was a customer in Houston who had been shot in the chest near his heart, and the bullet was still lodged in his chest and he could not find an attorney, and came to me for assistance. Due to the fact that his statute of limitations was running out, I “ghostwrote” his documents, he filed them in court, I connected him to an attorney and in the end he got a 6 figure check!
I continued to litigate from a room in my fathers house and in October of 2024, I lost the biggest case of my young career at that time. I didn’t quit, I didn’t put my head down I understood that going against attorneys was a tough proposition for someone like me, but standing up for people with disabilities was just too important. So I put my head down, and started telling my story on a LIVE stream on YouTube entitled “Legal Wars LIVE”
To make a long story short, the case I lost ended up being my biggest victory because in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, the case was sent back to the Federal Court in Austin meaning I won the appeal! As someone without a law license, I found LESS THAN 1,000 WHO EVER WON AN APPEAL IN THE US COURT OF APPEALS! Meanwhile in state court, I sued the same Defendant, on similar but different charges, and they decided to settle. I signed a NDA, and I had to dismiss the appeal due to the fact I got paid anyway!
I am from the city Nolan Wells is from. I graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 1999. I didn’t experience MUCH racism from my all white friends, but I DID from the police and the government. In 2025 I filed a case against Ocean Springs, MS due to their policing policies.
I currently live in New York City, and currently I have 2 cases against cities in New York due to their police departments not being trained in how to properly handle someone with a disability. I have sent “Notice of Lawsuits” to another city in New York and a county as well for similar violations.
I received a $2,700 a month voucher for housing in New York City and I’m currently looking for housing. I have a complaint I completed for a client in Mississippi, 1 document, I’m waiting for a $40,000 payment on. I have my cases as well, but currently being a disabled veteran I am living on a fixed income, and I make a few hundred per month in royalties from YouTube.
I consider myself a justice fighter, a civil rights warrior who independently stands up for the rights of marginalized people.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it has not, although I’m looking for apartments currently in New York City and I have the voucher I stay in an independent living shelter on the Upper Westside of Manhattan and for the last 4 months it has not been easy. The police have towed my car 3 times as well, and I’m fighting them over that too
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have a AAS in Paralegal Technology from MGCCC and a lifetime Paralegal Certificate. I started a business, Ameliorate Legal, LLC in 2022, and it has been my platform in which I have filed 35 cases in Federal, state, and county courts in over 9 different states and 23 different judical districts, winning 9 cases that came to a conclusion and only losing 3, recovering hundreds of thousands of dollars in the process for myself, a couple clients, and an attorney.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
In my business, as a Paralegal going against attorneys, I define success as winning. To me, it’s all about winning and losing. Every case that I win, is a win for people with disabilities. Black people, and veterans. That’s why I really do this
