Today we’d like to introduce you to Latanya Williams.
Hi Latanya , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey to becoming an author was born out of pain, faith, healing, and a desire to help others. For many years, I experienced challenges that tested me emotionally, spiritually, and personally, including heartbreak, divorce, and learning how to rebuild my life after difficult seasons. During that time, writing became an outlet for me to process my experiences and reflect on God’s grace and restoration in my life.
As I shared my story with others, I realized that many people were facing similar struggles and needed encouragement. That realization inspired me to write my memoir, Married the Same Man Twice. The book chronicles my journey through love, loss, forgiveness, faith, and second chances. My goal was not just to tell my story, but to inspire others to find hope and healing in their own lives.
Today, I am a self- published author. Becoming an author opened doors for me to connect with readers, share my testimony, and encourage people to keep moving forward despite life’s challenges. Looking back, what began as a personal story of survival became a platform to inspire others, and for that, I am truly grateful.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. Becoming an author required me to be vulnerable and share some of the most difficult experiences of my life. Writing my memoir meant revisiting painful memories, including heartbreak, divorce, disappointment, and the emotional challenges that came with rebuilding my life. There were times when I questioned whether I should share my story at all because it required me to open up about deeply personal experiences.
Another challenge was overcoming self-doubt. Like many first-time authors, I wondered if people would connect with my story or if my message would truly make a difference. Learning the publishing, marketing, and promotional side of being an author was also a new experience and came with its own learning curve.
What kept me going was my faith and the belief that my experiences could help someone else who was struggling. Every obstacle became part of the story. Looking back, the challenges taught me resilience, strengthened my trust in God, and reminded me that our most difficult seasons can often become the foundation for our purpose. Today, seeing readers connect with Married the Same Man Twice and hearing how it has encouraged others makes every challenge along the journey worthwhile.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Professionally, I am a Certified Professional Medical Coder with UTHealth, and I have worked in the medical coding industry for nearly 20 years. Throughout my career, I have specialized in coding for multiple surgical specialties, which has allowed me to develop extensive knowledge in complex coding, compliance, and healthcare regulations.
What I am most proud of is my commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. The healthcare industry is constantly evolving, and I have always embraced opportunities to expand my knowledge, adapt to changes, and enhance my expertise. My dedication to learning has helped me maintain a high level of accuracy and professionalism throughout my career.
What sets me apart is not only my experience but also who I am as a person. I genuinely care about people and believe in treating others with kindness, respect, and integrity. I have a good heart, and I strive to bring that same compassion into every aspect of my work and community involvement. I believe that true success is measured not only by professional accomplishments but also by how we uplift and support others along the way.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is faith, family, helping others, and leaving a positive impact wherever I go. I believe success is not just about professional accomplishments but about how you treat people and how you use your gifts to make a difference in their lives.
