Rising Stars: Meet MAYERLYN BAUTISTA of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to MAYERLYN BAUTISTA.

Hi MAYERLYN, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story has always been about transformation, resilience, and purpose.

I am a Colombian woman, entrepreneur, professional makeup artist, cosmetologist, hair care specialist, educator, and a Social Communicator and Journalist. My journey in the beauty industry began more than 20 years ago, but over time I discovered that beauty was never just about how someone looks—it is also about how a woman feels when she sees herself with confidence again.

Life has taken me through many changes, including starting over in the United States and rebuilding my professional path in Houston. Those experiences challenged me, but they also helped me redefine my purpose and create Mayekglamour, a beauty concept where makeup, hair care, education, and personal transformation come together.

Today, through Mayekglamour, I specialize in professional makeup, hair color, personalized hair therapies, and beauty education. I approach every client individually because I believe beauty should never be one-size-fits-all. My goal is for every woman who sits in my chair to leave not only looking beautiful, but feeling seen, confident, and empowered.

I am also passionate about supporting and connecting women beyond the beauty industry. Through Mujeres Unidas con Propósito, I have helped create a community centered on connection, visibility, collaboration, and opportunities for women.

Everything I have built has come through perseverance, continuous education, faith, and the courage to reinvent myself. Today, I am still growing and learning, but with a very clear purpose: to use beauty and communication as tools to empower women and remind them of their value.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. My journey has required me to start over, adapt to major life changes, and continue moving forward even when the future was uncertain.

Leaving Colombia itself was not painful for me because traveling, discovering new places, and experiencing the world had always been one of my dreams. I saw coming to the United States as an opportunity to grow, challenge myself, and build a new chapter in my life.

What was truly painful was having to leave my two daughters in Colombia, who were 13 and 21 years old at the time. As a mother, being separated from them was one of the greatest emotional challenges and sacrifices of my journey. Pursuing a dream while carrying the distance from my daughters in my heart required strength, faith, and determination.

Professionally, I arrived with years of education, experience, and knowledge, but I still had to learn a new system, adapt to a different culture and language, rebuild my network, and establish my professional reputation again.

As a woman, mother, immigrant, and entrepreneur, I have had to balance many responsibilities while pursuing my dreams. There have been moments of financial uncertainty, personal challenges, sacrifices, and times when I questioned what my next step should be. Building a business from the ground up without always having the resources or connections I needed has required patience, creativity, discipline, faith, and a great deal of resilience.

However, those challenges became part of my strength. They taught me that starting over does not mean starting from zero—you carry your experience, knowledge, values, love, and determination with you.

Today, I see every obstacle as part of the woman and professional I have become. My faith, perseverance, continuous education, and love for my daughters have kept me moving forward. My experiences have also given deeper meaning to my work and to my desire to empower other women.

I want my story to remind women that reinvention is possible at any stage of life, that pursuing a dream sometimes requires difficult sacrifices, and that the hardest chapters of our lives do not have to define the ending of our story.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional makeup artist, cosmetologist, hair care specialist, colorist, and beauty educator with more than 20 years of experience in the beauty industry. Through my brand, Mayekglamour, I have created a space where beauty, education, and personal transformation come together.

I specialize in professional makeup, hair color, personalized hair therapies, and beauty education. One of the areas I am most passionate about is hair care. Rather than simply focusing on how the hair looks, I evaluate each client individually and create personalized hair care plans according to the condition and needs of their hair and scalp. My philosophy is that beautiful hair begins with understanding what it truly needs.

Makeup is another important part of my work. For me, makeup is not about hiding who a woman is; it is about enhancing her beauty and helping her recognize herself with greater confidence. This philosophy is also at the heart of the self-makeup courses I teach, where I encourage women to see makeup as an act of self-care and self-love.

My background as a Social Communicator and Journalist has also shaped the way I work. Communication allows me to educate, connect, listen, and understand the woman behind every beauty service. I don’t want my clients to simply receive a service—I want them to understand the process and feel that they are being heard and cared for.

What I am most proud of is having transformed more than two decades of experience into a purpose-driven brand and continuing to educate myself so I can offer increasingly specialized services.

What sets Mayekglamour apart is the personalized experience. I believe in quality over quantity. Every woman receives my full attention, professional knowledge, and a service designed specifically for her. My goal is not simply to create beautiful hair or makeup; it is for every woman who comes into my space to leave feeling more confident, empowered, and connected with herself.

For me, beauty is not just an industry. It is a powerful tool for transformation, education, and empowerment.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If there is one thing I would like readers to take away from my story, it is that it is never too late to reinvent yourself.

I believe we are not defined by our age, where we come from, the difficult chapters we have lived through, or how many times we have had to start again. We are defined by what we choose to do with those experiences.

My journey is still being written. I continue to dream, learn, evolve, and build. Mayekglamour is more than a beauty brand to me—it represents years of experience, perseverance, faith, and my belief that beauty can become a bridge to confidence and self-love.

I also believe strongly in the power of women supporting women. That is one of the reasons Mujeres Unidas con Propósito is so meaningful to me. I want to use my voice, my experience in communication, and my platform not only to grow personally, but also to create connections, visibility, and opportunities for other women.

If my story can inspire even one woman who feels that she has to start over, I want her to know this: your story does not end when life changes your plans. Sometimes, that is exactly where your most powerful chapter begins.

I am still building mine.
