Rising Stars: Meet Megan Leigh of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Leigh.

Hi Megan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’d like to introduce myself, I’m Megan Leigh the owner of Pearls Alchemy. The vision and creative process started about 4 years ago. Honestly, pearls alchemy is more than business for me, it’s my identity, it’s my brand, and the start to reinventing myself. To fully understand the depths of the importance of pearls alchemy, i must start before it was ever a glimmer in my mind, I did stand up comedy locally in southeast Texas and lake charles ,Louisiana for about 10 years, it was a fun adventure getting to understand my sense of humor, understanding people(reading the audience), doing talent competitions, pushing myself to the next level of what I was comfortable with doing , the biggest inspiration of my comedy “career “, was the honor of getting to co host an open mic for a full summer at a local downtown Beaumont establishment ,Jazz N Jokes, as a comedian you have to fully be your advocate, your voice, and your promotion. My best friend Shelby Williams (Rosie’s looking glass co) and my business partner/partner in crime was the bartender that summer while I performed. We saw the vision of owning our own business together in that moment , we knew if we could bring the magic to jazz n jokes even if there was only a few people in the audience, we could make that magic happen anywhere ! There were lots of times only a few people were there, and those were the toughest but most rewarding crowds! They heard me, they saw me, they felt like the most important people in that room because they were. When I started doing comedy, I knew my voice would be the most important thing professionally and spiritually. I have a very unique and quirky voice ,due to having a partly damaged vocal cord since I was an infant. My voice became my brand. I transformed Megan Leigh Comedy when I decided to rebrand and step back from the stage for personal reasons (not being heard locally by the dangers in the community and my safety was threatened, that’s a story for another day) that I had to do something, I wouldn’t give up, I refused to be silenced . I choose to become an online influencer , to make my presence by promoting safe local talent and business, and with that i rediscovered my confidence and my ability. Inspired and dedicated for my voice to make an impact on the community ,Pearls Alchemy was created! My name Megan means “a pearl “, alchemy is the art of transforming energy and that’s exactly what I do, on or off stage. My best friend Shelby and I started to do vendor events locally, and creating art , together and separately, (Shelby’s an amazing vocalist) we have become a force to be reckoned with! We provide spiritual services such as tarot readings, house cleansings and more. We create jewelry, design custom wreaths , and so much more! Honestly whatever we want to learn and be creative with we will make it happen. We do private parties for tarot, and vision boards. We love attending local events and shows, and we soon realized that our friendship itself became a big part of our brand , and we are so honored people have become inspired by us when they see us out and about , and on social media, we hope to inspire others to continue to create and that their talent, art,& voice make a difference in this community! We can be found at local businesses in southeast Texas such as , Emporium 13, The Art Studio, For the Record, Sunrise Records, & Odditeas Bookshoppe, we will be expanding soon to Galveston and working vendor events along side Herb Smudge & Apothecary.
We are excited and honored to bring our vision to life! We can’t wait to connect, create and collaborate with more of you in the future !

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road in comedy was a bumpy one, I was attempted to be blacklisted in the area because I stood my ground on something personal that happened to me behind the scenes, as one of the only women in comedy in our area at that time I was seen as “the problem” but I refused to allow that to stop me from continuing to create and let my voice and others be heard. Pearls Alchemy is still starting up, and we have learned from doing vendor events what to expect, what businesses to rely on and trust to promote us and us promote them, but we know that whatever struggles come our way it’s just protection , rejection is protection. And we will continue to pave our path to success.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am known for stand up comedy, for doing local paranormal investigations , my writing , I am featured in a book called Louisiana Unknown written by Jeremy Royer exclusive with the Old number 7 society , tarot readings , spirituality, advocacy for mental health, and my abstract art!

Any big plans?
I hope to relocate to Galveston within the next year or two, work along side local businesses such as Herb Smudge &Apothecary, and eventually have a store front of our very own!
