Today we’d like to introduce you to Pap God.
Pap, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started May 13, 1997 in Houston Tx where I was born. Born Dylon Groves, I was raised mostly on the east side of Houston in north shore school district. I always been an outgoing enthusiastic person since a child. In high school me and 3 of my brothers along with my cousins would constantly hang out and record music daily. After high school I attended a Travis Scott concert in Houston Tx, Rodeo, and those moshpits showed me something for the first time, that was the energy in each person that was jumping around pushing laughing raging together. After that concert I told myself I didn’t want to attend another concert like that until it was me on stage musically controlling the chaos. January 2018 is when that happened. I performed at the original warehouse live venue in Houston for my first ever performance which was a competition out of 100 artist in which I won 3rd place. At that show I created my first ever mosh pit through my energy, music, and stage presence so I significantly stood out from the rest and I knew that. After that I started doing open mic shows in the Houston underground scene with promoter ByxBreezy who paved the way for many other artists such as Don Toliver, Tisa Korean, Yung Deji, Odetari, plus many more. At this point this is where I met Yoshi the Plug and SKG along with many more artists in all fields. At this point we have done shows with Lil Tracy, Chris Travis, Kid Trunks, Idkjeffery, Xavier Wulf, Fat Nick, Pouya, Blueface, NLE Choppa, Tisa Korean, Deji, TSF.
After opening many different shows around the city for major artists with Yoshi The Plug and SKG, we started gaining attention and notoriety around the city. We branched off and created Texas Genocide, a brand created to give us a platform / stage of our own in which we took to the next level. We started our own tours around Texas, including Lubbock, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin. March 17, 2021 Peace Hendrix Groves was born, and 3 weeks later he tragically passed away due to SIDS. At this point I fell into a deep dark depression which led to me falling into drug addiction. The only thing that would keep me in good spirits was the music. So I recorded and recorded and after dropping my first project “Judgement Day” I got back outside to performing and getting on tours with artist such as Craig Xen, Robb Banks, Jasiah, NASCAR Aloe, Black Smurf, Xavier Wulf, Eddy Baker. idk Jefferey, Chris Travis along with headlining Texas Genocide events along with collaborations with other party/show promoters to continue to grow the fan base. I’ve recorded sessions with ryanmellow, ramyonthebeat, damn AJ, OHROSS, giomadeit, NOIE j at 713 studios in Houston Tx. I’ve also made songs with Lil B the based god, Mightybay, Craig Xen, TSF, plus many more artist around the world. Inspired from helping build Texas Genocide, I made my own brand and held my first event in September of 2021 , Peace Love Rage. The event was held at legendary venue “The White Swan” located in Houston Tx, the event brought out fans and supporters from all over the world with an estimated attendance of 500 – 750 people. I’ve modeled for local brands like seventh sense, inswif, mala fide out of Dallas tx. I’ve been on Nojumper a platform known for blowing up upcoming artist. I have since been to rehab and am now happily sober and have been enjoying time with family as I prepare my next project “I Am Pap”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been everything but smooth especially battling depression and drug abuse. I am however proud to say I’m glad for everything I been through as I wouldn’t be the man I am today. And there’s still a lot of room for growth, nothing that last forever ever comes easy
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m known mostly for my shows. Although I make all different genres of music, I really thrived in performing my energetic rage songs. All of my shows ended with me or a fan out the crowd crowd surfing, moshing, and just overall having the time of our lives getting it all out in the pit and leaving it all on there. It was beautiful how the music brought the city together.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
It’s very important to take as many risks as safely as possible as early as you can. Of course I hope everyone assess the risks of anything before taking part but if you think you can handle whatever comes from it then do it, learn whatever you need to learn and evolve so you don’t make the same mistakes made when taken those risks
