Rising Stars: Meet Rob Hyatt of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Hyatt.

Hi Rob, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m part of a non profit organization “Texas Brotherhood Ride” We started in 2014, cycling hundreds and thousands of miles since, honoring first responders who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. We meet the families of those first responders and give financial, and emotional support.
In 2009, April 12th, Easter Sunday morning, my firehouse crew in Houston has a tragic house fire where two of our fellow HFD brothers paid the ultimate sacrifice.

When the Texas Brotherhood Ride was created I felt the calling to join and honor the fallen.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
24 years so far as a Houston Fireman has it’s emotional and physical challenges over the years.

It’s a rewarding career but also can take part of your soul if you let it.

The Texas brotherhood ride has been a great therapeutic outlet.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a Houston Firefighter it’s an honor to serve and help the people of Houston and the local community my firehouse resides in, Sagemont.

I try and make the relationships personal with the ones we make calls with, most recently an elderly lady Billie Duff, who past away a few years ago., local ABC Channel 13 did a story of her, myself and my firehouse about our relationship with Billie Duff
