We recently had the chance to connect with Shazia Ahmad and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Shazia, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day usually revolve around my baby. I’m woken up by her, and I start the day by feeding, changing, and playing with her. Once she goes down for her nap, I take that quiet time to get some work done or organize what I need for the day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I started my career as a makeup artist, freelancing in the beauty industry where I worked with brides, fashion shows, and glamour clients. A few years ago, I discovered a new passion and launched my jewelry brand, Jentier Jewelry. My brand specializes in sterling silver, gold-plated, and fashion jewelry inspired by Turkish heritage. We participate in markets throughout the year and also sell online at Jentier.com.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother has been my greatest teacher when it comes to work. She taught me the value of hard work, integrity, and perseverance. In 1984, she opened one of the first Pakistani boutiques in Houston and successfully ran it until she retired in 2016. Her commitment to her clients and her community left such a lasting impression that people still recognize and respect her today. Watching her taught me the importance of building genuine, long-term relationships — something I’ve carried into my own work, where many of my makeup clients have become close friends over the past 20 years.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that she’s doing better than she thinks. Everything will fall into place in time — so be patient, trust your journey, and don’t be so hard on yourself.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire my father, not for any power or influence he holds, but for his strength of character. He’s compassionate, honest, and resilient — qualities that make people trust and respect him. His ability to stay kind and grounded, even in difficult times, is what I truly admire.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I find peace through prayer and by spending time in nature, especially near the water. Those quiet moments give me space to reflect, recharge, and stay centered. I’m happiest when I’m with my husband and daughter, and I truly cherish the time I spend with my friends and family — their love and laughter bring so much joy and balance to my life.
