We recently had the chance to connect with Charles Y and have shared our conversation below.
Charles, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is waking up, seeing my cat “Red” and getting ready for the day. I start my day off by stretching and going to the gym for my morning workout
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Charles Nelson. I am a martial arts teacher, an actor, and character performer here in Houston, Texas. I’m a hard working man doing everything that I can to make it to the next level.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom. She always seen me for who I am and told me to be myself despite what others may think of me. She always tells me what I need to hear even if I may not want to listen at times.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
To give yourself some time and don’t pressure yourself to be perfect. It’s ok to make mistakes it’s ok to not know what you don’t know and it’s ok to ask for help.. We all need help and we are all trying to figure out this crazy roller coaster called “life” you are unique and don’t let anyone criticize you into changing who you are.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I never hid behind any form of success. What you see is me. I want people to know that I don’t hide behind any form of accolades I was always me.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was a flawed man that tried to be a good person to everyone regardless of where they came from or what their culture was. This world needs more kindness and we can be that with one ounce of effort mixed with empathy everyday.
