Dariana Johnson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Dariana, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something outside of work that has been bringing me joy lately would definitely be raising my kids and watching them grow.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dariana Johnson, I’m originally from Mccomb, MS but I was born and raised in Houston, TX. I’ve been an esthetician for six years now. What makes me interesting or special would be the different type of services I provide for my clients and the various ways of hair removal we offer. We now offer laser hair removal as a new way to remove hair from the skin. I’m super excited about continuing to expand my business and learn new techniques!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I had a mentor when i was in high school, her name is Beatrice Zarco. I worked for Beatrice at her spa in river oaks. She always told me how much potential i had to be a spa owner/ business owner as well and encouraged me to go to esthetician school.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes definitely, between having kids and losing my kids father this year it definitely was rough and i felt like i wouldn’t be able to do it without him, instead i used it as motivation being that i was the only parent my kids have left and i knew he would want me to keep going for them.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie this industry tells itself is that this is an easy get rich industry, which in most cases it is but it takes a lot of discipline and consistency most people don’t have.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If i retired tomorrow I think most of my customers would miss the bond we shared. I have a lot of clients that have become friends and even family. They could choose to go to anyone in this city but they still choose me because of the genuine bond and relationship I have with my customers
