Story & Lesson Highlights with Naseer Alam of Central Houston

We recently had the chance to connect with Naseer Alam and have shared our conversation below.

Naseer, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Right now, a normal day is a mix of creativity, problem-solving, and a lot of hands-on work. I usually start early—checking in with the team, reviewing production schedules, and making sure orders are on track. I spend time in the warehouse, whether it’s testing materials, ensure packaging is perfect, or just being close to the craft. Afternoons are often filled with meetings, planning, and thinking about how to grow the brand while staying true to our values. It’s busy, but I love the rhythm of it—every day brings something new, and that keeps me inspired.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Naseer Alam, and I’m the founder of Amazing Leather, a company born out of a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, heritage, and timeless design. We specialize in creating premium leather goods that blend traditional techniques with modern aesthetics—each piece is thoughtfully made to last and tell a story. What makes our brand unique is our commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing, ensuring that beauty and responsibility go hand in hand. Right now, we’re working on multiple projects for corporate gift clients.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
The person who taught me the most about work is my father. He wasn’t just a hard worker—he was deeply principled, consistent, and took pride in doing things the right way, even when no one was watching. Watching him build a life for our family with integrity and quiet determination shaped how I approach my own work and business. His values are woven into the DNA of my brand—from the way we source our materials to how we treat our team and customers. Every product we make is a tribute to the work ethic and values he passed down to me.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes—there was a time early on when I almost gave up. I had poured everything into the business, but we hit a stretch where nothing seemed to go right—production delays, financial strain, and a lot of self-doubt. I remember sitting in the warehouse late one night, wondering if it was time to walk away. But then I thought about why I started: to build something meaningful, something lasting. I thought about my father’s resilience and how he never quit, no matter how hard things got. That reminder gave me the strength to push through. Looking back, that moment was a turning point—it tested me, but it also clarified my purpose.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’d say the public version of me is very much the real me—but it’s the version that’s focused, intentional, and representing something bigger than myself. What you see in Amazing Leather and my work is rooted in who I am: my values, my upbringing, and my passion for craftsmanship. Of course, like anyone, there are quieter parts of me that don’t always show up in public—the late nights, the doubts, the personal sacrifices—but they’re all part of the same story. I try to keep things authentic, because I believe people connect with honesty more than perfection.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was born to do. It just took me a while to realize it. For a long time, I followed the path I thought I was supposed to—what was expected, what felt safe. But deep down, I always had a pull toward creating something with my hands, something lasting.
