Story & Lesson Highlights with Tamela Graves of Northeast

We recently had the chance to connect with Tamela Graves and have shared our conversation below.

Tamela, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I just turned 40 on October 3rd, Libra gang all day! ✨ This new chapter has been about doing things that truly make me happy and not worrying about what anyone else thinks. I’ve officially retired from people-pleasing. If I want to take a spontaneous 24-hour trip or disappear for a week to reset, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Life is too short, and the way things are going in the world, I’m choosing to live it on my terms.

To anyone reading this take that trip, plan that spa day, wear the outfit, buy the toy, the treat, or the “guilty pleasure.” Whatever it is, do it because you deserve it. This season is about living freely, laughing loudly, and loving yourself harder than ever.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Tamela M. Graves, the Creative Advisor and visionary behind TmgUnlimited, where our motto is “We Bring Your Vision to Life, The Missing Puzzle Piece!” Founded in 2018, TmgUnlimited is more than just a creative brand; it’s a movement built on passion, innovation, and faith. I help individuals and businesses turn their visions into reality through innovative designs, strategic networking, and unforgettable events that leave lasting impressions.

What makes TmgUnlimited unique is the personal touch behind everything we do. I believe in in-sourcing before outsourcing, meaning I connect clients with trusted vendors and professionals I personally know and have worked with. That creates not only a seamless experience but also builds real community connections.

My journey started with a background in Fashion and Retail Management from The Art Institute of Houston, and I’ve carried that creative foundation into everything I touch, from fashion and events to mentoring and brand development. My inspiration comes from faith, people, and the simple joy of helping others see their dreams come to life.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding TmgUnlimited’s reach globally and collaborating with creatives, entrepreneurs, and brands who share the same drive to make an impact. Whether it’s designing experiences, curating events, or creating meaningful partnerships, my mission is to continue empowering others to boldly walk in their purpose, one vision at a time.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that constantly seeks validation from others. For so long, I poured into everyone else and dimmed my own light just to make others comfortable. That version of me served its purpose; it taught me empathy, patience, and how to show up for people. But now, it’s time to show up for me.

I’m releasing the need to overthink, over-give, and overextend. I’m walking in confidence, peace, and purpose, understanding that saying “no” doesn’t make me selfish, it makes me balanced. I’ve learned that growth requires letting go, and I’m finally okay with that. The new version of me moves with intention, faith, and freedom; UNAPOLOGETICALLY!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her, “You are enough, just as you are.” Stop shrinking yourself to fit into spaces that were never meant for you. The things that make you different are actually your greatest strengths. Keep trusting God, keep dreaming big, and don’t let fear make your decisions.

Everything you’re going through is shaping you for the purpose He has already prepared. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Just keep showing up, keep believing, and know that the woman you’re becoming is proud of you.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would say what matters most to me is faith, loyalty, and purpose. I’m all about walking in alignment with God’s plan and making sure everything I do has meaning behind it. They know I care deeply about the people in my circle and that I’ll always show up, whether it’s to celebrate their wins or help them through their storms.

They’d also tell you I value creativity and joy. I love seeing people smile, feel seen, and know that their vision or dream matters. At the end of the day, I believe in pouring love, light, and authenticity into everything I touch, because that’s what truly lasts.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I lived with purpose, passion, and faith. That I used my creativity and heart to make others feel seen, valued, and inspired. I want my story to be one of love, that I gave freely, encouraged boldly, and poured into others without hesitation.

I hope they say I walked in alignment with God’s plan and that my light never dimmed, no matter what life threw my way. That I made people believe in themselves, chase their dreams, and know that with faith and determination, anything is possible.

Most of all, I want them to remember that I brought visions to life not just through my brand, but through the way I loved, served, and showed up for others.
