Syed Mahmood shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Syed, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My days are incredibly busy. I genuinely feel like I need 26 hours just to fit everything in. I’m constantly juggling content creation, product development, live selling shows, and a hundred new ideas at once. It’s a fast-paced rhythm, but it’s exactly where I thrive.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the founder of Plum Olive, a brand built around fun, stylish, and accessible accessories, jewelries etc. designed to bring a little personality into people’s everyday lives. I run everything from product design to live selling, and I love turning creative ideas into experiences that genuinely excite customers. What makes my journey unique is that I’m building this brand in real time — experimenting, creating, learning from my audience, and constantly pushing myself to level up. Right now, I’m focused on expanding our product line, elevating our live-show experience, and building a community that feels connected to the story behind every item.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I could never be on a public platform or speak in front of people. Now I host live shows on Whatnot, sell to audiences in real time, and create content across social media. What I once thought was impossible has become a core part of my daily life and my brand.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that held me back the most was worrying about what other people would think of me. That concern shaped a lot of my early choices. Today, I’m no longer controlled by that judgment. I show up unapologetically, create freely, and let my work speak for itself.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m fully committed to building the long-term reputation of my brand, Plum Olive. My vision is to offer exclusive, limited-quantity pieces but not in a way that’s only for luxury buyers. Some items will be premium, others will be affordable, and all will feel collectible because of their limited nature. I want everyday people to experience that excitement of owning something special, and I’m willing to take as long as it takes to build a brand that delivers exactly that.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely. When I commit to a goal, I believe in giving it everything I’ve got, because that’s the only way to tap into my full potential. For me, it’s never been about praise, it’s about the inner satisfaction that comes from knowing I showed up fully, even when no one was watching.
