We’re looking forward to introducing you to Trang Nguyen. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Trang, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: When was the last time you felt true joy?
The last time we felt true joy was just recently, while preparing for Noah’s first birthday celebration.
That joy quickly grew into something unforgettable. Noah’s family shared how much he loved elephants, and from that tiny detail, an entire world began to take shape. The centerpiece became a gift box the size of a car, opening to reveal a handcrafted elephant head towering at 2.6 meters. Since nothing like this had ever been made before, our artisans built every piece by hand, from precise measurements to the curved wooden bow that took days of research to perfect. Watching it come together, piece by piece, felt like witnessing magic in slow motion.
Then came the ceiling. More than 200 hand-cut clouds, stars, and moons were suspended individually, each placed with exact precision after 48 hours of installation. Even inflating the balloon-filled ceiling took six hours of focused work. For two days and nights, 15 members of our team crafted every detail until the space transformed into “Noah’s fantasy world.”
When we finally stepped back and saw it all complete, we felt that quiet, overwhelming joy, the kind that reminds us why we do what we do.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are The Story, a professional balloon and event decoration studio specializing in baby showers, first birthdays, and milestone celebrations. What makes our work unique is our belief that an event should be more than decoration. It should be a quiet luxury experience shaped entirely around the client’s own story.
We never use templates. Instead, we listen closely to each family, understand their journey, and craft a design that is personal, meaningful, and unforgettable. Behind every event is a team of 3D designers and skilled artisans who build every detail by hand, using high quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship.
One of the things that sets The Story apart is our commitment to personalization. Before any installation begins, clients receive a full 3D design of their event so they can visualize every element of their unique setup. Nothing is copied or reused. Every design is created exclusively for the person it belongs to.
At The Story, excellence is our standard. If we aren’t proud of it ourselves, we don’t present it to anyone else. Because more than anything, we believe every story deserves to be told, the world deserves to hear yours.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One moment that truly shaped how I see the world happened during Noah’s first birthday. The Story is still a young name, and not everyone immediately understands the direction we’re pursuing. Many days felt like we were walking against the wind, holding on to a vision that not everyone could see yet. But then Noah’s parents chose to trust us wholeheartedly, and that changed everything.
After weeks of work, the moment they stepped into the finished space became a turning point. Even though they had already seen the 3D design, the reality moved them in a way none of us expected. The father whispered through tears that he had always dreamed of giving his child something extraordinary. The mother kept repeating how reality was a thousand times more beautiful than the render. And little Noah, with his wide eyes and soft “wow, wow,” looked around as if the whole world had suddenly opened up.
Standing there, watching their reactions, I realized something important: we may be young, we may choose the difficult path, but we are walking in the right direction. That moment reminded me that vision matters, faith matters, and persistence matters. Even when the journey is challenging, I don’t give up, because moments like that prove that beauty, when created with heart, has the power to reshape not just a room, but the way people experience the world.
Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Every time we work on an event, I feel the power of being truly listened to by our team. Each time, they take the time to hear the full story of the client, whether through me or other team members. We also listen to each other, sharing the challenges we face during installation, and learning from the newest, most innovative techniques in decoration.
I share what clients love, what they dislike, and the unique details that will make their event personal and memorable. Every suggestion, concern, or insight is carefully considered, and the team listens with intention. That mutual attentiveness keeps us all on the same page, united in purpose, and aligned toward the same goal: creating happy clients and delivering a flawless result.
It’s in these moments of true listening to clients, to each other, and to the story behind every celebration that I feel our work becomes more than decoration. It becomes a shared vision, a collaboration built on respect, care, and a commitment to excellence. And that makes all the difference.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
One belief we hold at The Story is that every project deserves our full commitment, no matter how long it takes. Some events take two weeks. Others take six months. And many have taken nearly a year from the very first conversation to the final installation. But to us, time is never an inconvenience. It’s simply part of the craft.
Every project begins with listening to the client’s story. From there, we move through concept creation, inspiration gathering, 3D design, revisions, manufacturing, and handcrafted details. And when event week arrives, we work overnight if needed, sometimes for several days straight, to make sure everything feels perfect.
One recent example was a tea ceremony we designed for a bride who first reached out two years ago. A year and a half later, she asked for a meeting because she wanted both her wedding and her tea ceremony to be flawless. The tea ceremony, especially, was deeply meaningful to her, intimate, emotional, and shared only with family. Throughout the planning, she trusted us completely, always saying, “Whatever you think is beautiful, just do it.”
For her, we created a soft, elegant space filled with warmth. We didn’t just build a backdrop. We draped the entire room, curated every flower, and shaped an atmosphere that felt graceful and deeply personal. When the ceremony began, there was a long, quiet pause — that breathless silence before the “wow.” Guests whispered, took pictures, and kept asking, “How can it be this beautiful?”
Moments like that are why we stay committed, no matter how long the journey is. Because beauty crafted with intention takes time.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Every time we hear feedback and learn the stories behind our clients’ events, we can’t help but feel that kind of pure excitement. There have been so many moments like this, but what stands out recently was just days after a bride’s tea ceremony. She was still overjoyed, sharing every little detail with us. Everyone who attended couldn’t stop taking pictures. Her family kept pulling out their phones again and again, and friends from other states messaged her nonstop to say how stunning everything looked.
She described her house that day as a little “traffic jam,” with guests moving around to find the perfect corner to capture every detail. And honestly, that’s the kind of chaos we love most. “I gave them a show!” she said, her joy absolutely contagious.
For us, decorating isn’t just about making a space beautiful. It’s about creating a feeling that lingers, a moment you remember every time you look back. It’s about wrapping milestones in joy, love, and beauty. Especially for a bride who cherishes beauty as deeply as she does, seeing that happiness unfold, that’s when we truly feel like we’re tap dancing to work.
