Meet Arturo Perez of Houston Sidecar Tours in Upper Kirby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arturo Perez.

Arturo, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Back in Oct of 2014, I relocated back to Houston. I had with me a Russian Motorcycle called Ural Sidecar Motorcycle. The design of the motorcycle is the same design since 1931 used by the Germans in WWII. As I drove around town, people will stop me and say “you should give rides” also, “That is cool can I get a ride?” I had the enlightenment moment when I said to myself “what if I give rides?” Well, then there is the beer thing that I am aficionado about. I started traveling to the breweries. Same thing people asking for rides and taking pictures with my bike. Well on November of 2015, I embarked the adventure of taking people in a sidecar motorcycle tour around the city. Not only was I stopping at historical sites, also was telling them about the location we were at and its history. While I been enjoying meeting people, the people started asking about taking them to breweries. That is now the main tour. We hope around breweries, murals, and historical landmarks taking pictures capturing the amazing adventure.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While this is not my primary job. There have been some struggles. Just the fact of making sure I as a sole proprietor meet all the requirements Texas has for a business. I only take two people at a time. Therefore, big parties are not in my current scope. This is more of a personal moment with the city and the two passengers.

Houston Sidecar Tours – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Houston Sidecar Tours are the only sidecar business in town. The company gives a tour to two people at a time seeing the city in a different perspective. The tour is mainly a brewery tour with historical facts about Houston and mural sightseeing. I am proud that it puts smiles on everyone that rides. What sets me apart from others, is that I have a sidecar motorcycle touring the entire city.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment was when an 82-year-old lady booked a tour to enjoy her daughter’s Birthday. She had the best time and even had a few beers to enjoy the end of her tour.
