Meet Karenn Murga of B|A Luxury Gift Shop in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karenn Murga.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs, my parents own a successful hair salon in Pasadena. I grew up working and learning everything about having a business. I always knew I wanted to have my own business, and I thought I had everything planned out. Well, I found out God had other plans when I found out I was pregnant at 18. I felt like I was just a pregnant teenager now, and that bothered me. I told myself said that I was not going to be what everyone expects of a pregnant teenager. I used that to push myself and made being successful into my goal, I got a job in a big company and I loved it. Then in 2013, I got pregnant with my second child. I knew my plans had to change, but I was scared. I applied for another job, and they ended up giving someone else the position. At that moment, I was scared I didn’t know what my next step was and to me that was terrifying. One day, my cousin came and told me about a business idea that we could both start. I was all in, but I honestly just thought of it as a stepping stone, nothing concrete. That’s when we created Bon Appetit Lunchbox, hers in McAllen and mine in Houston. As the years passed, I started adding more items and that is when I changed my name to B|A Luxury Gift Shop. At the same time people that were well known or had alot of influence started contacting me. I then started creating friendships and networking with other business women, and I started to grow as a person and a business. I am always getting so inspired by the people and things around me and I honestly love to work. I sometimes sit in awe and just thank God for blessing me and guiding me in the right direction. I now understand that all of the struggles and no’s in my life were a part of his plan. I am also incredibly thankful for my family and my husband for helping me grow my business and for believing in me even when I didn’t believe in myself.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think anyone with a business will say it has been a smooth road, but what fun would it be without some struggles? For me my biggest struggle has been balancing everything in life. Being a mom to my two kids, being a wife, helping my family with the salon as well and still trying to find time to take care of myself. Even now, almost 4 years later I still haven’t found the perfect way to balance everything but I am learning everyday what it takes to be a mom boss.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with B|A Luxury Gift Shop – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
B|A Luxury Gift Shop is a place where you can send me your ideas and I make them happen. We always try to stay ahead of all the trends and bring them to you before anyone else does. We create, giant personalized balloons, custom flower boxes, surprise breakfast boxes, custom blankets, phone cases, puzzles, you name it! I think what separates us from other businesses is that we don’t see every order as just business, we take them very personally and make sure to add that extra touch of unique to make every gift special and memorable! What I am proud of the most is being able to motivate other young moms to believe in themselves, I want them to see me and say “If she can do it, I can do it too!”

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future I plan to open a location for my business, I want a fun gift shop that can brighten your day and be your one stop shop!
