Meet Emanda Horn of Studio Express the Motion Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emanda Horn.

Emanda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born on August 19, 1988, in Houston, Texas. I was created to give life to the world of Dance. I started dancing at the age of 5 years old. I started dancing at the Houston Metropolitan Dance Center with a Ballet class. I continued at the Houston met with Ballet, Modern and the Hip-Hop classes until the age of 13 years old. I became a Company Member of the Houston Met. I did several showcases with the Houston Met for many years along with performing at the Wortham Theater.

I started Praise dancing in my church at the age of 8 years old when it had yet to become popular and it became such a joy for me and then I was requested to come to several churches to perform. When I went to Middle School, I attended the Gregory-Lincoln Educational Center for The Fine Arts and I was also in the Gifted and Talent program.

At Gregory-Lincoln I was in the dance program which consisted of Ballet, Modern, Hip-Hop, and Jazz. In my 7th grade year at the age of 12, I was a part of the first Majorette Squad for the school and I also became the 1st Captain. I was a Majorette until I graduated from Middle school. I went to the Evan E. Worthing High School for the Magnet program. I also join the Majorette Team and in my senior year, I became the Captain. I graduated from High school in 2006. I went to the Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas where I majored in Dance. I developed my own Dance Team in 2010 under the name of Studio Express the Motion.

I started out with 6 girls at the Emancipation Community Park then we practiced on the rooftop of my apartment parking garage then I found a building that I could afford. In August of 2014, the Express the Motion Dance Foundation, Inc was formed. The Studio was growing with more girls and I had to get a bigger building.

Then I moved into another building that was fitted for the needs of the studio and today I have 50 girls and we have traveled to New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Memphis, TN and won Grand Championship in those cities. We are also the undefeated Stand Battle Team in Houston, TX going on 3 years. So far, this year we have competed in several competitions and have won Grand Championship in all of them. I am looking forward to greater and to still expand my Dance Company.
