Local Highlighter Series

We are so thrilled to be able to connect with some of the brightest and most inspiring entrepreneurs and creatives from across the city and beyond and this series in particular gives us the honor of introducing these folks to you in a unique way – we go beyond the story of how they got to where they are today by asking them to reflect on a variety of deeper questions that we hope will help you better connect with them, their stories and their brands. Ultimately, our hope is that more of us will spend more of our money with independent artists, creatives and small businesses and we think getting to know one another at a deeper level is step one.

I want to tell her that that BIG dream is possible. You’re not weird. You do have a special gift. Let them make fun of you. Let them tease you. You’re in a league of highly intelligent and educated individuals. You don’t fit the mold of normal. And it’s ok. Fulfill your dream, Cheri. It’s ok to be you. They mocked Jesus, girl. Read more>>

I’m being called to do something now that I was terrified of before: using my voice in more visible ways. A close friend recently reached out to me about hosting and speaking at a workshop. Her encouragement has been incredibly meaningful; she genuinely believes in me and has intentionally opened doors and created opportunities for my growth. Read more>>

What breaks the bonds between people is disconnection, when listening gives way to assumption and difference is met with fear instead of curiosity. Too often, the speed of modern life leaves no space to slow down and reflect. We’re surrounded by noise, but we often lack shared experiences that invite us to slow down and really see one another. Connection is what restores those bonds. Read more>>

Outside of work what brings me joy lately is just the simple things. Spending time with my wife, Raven, and FeeFee. Whether we are being silly in the house, wrestling around, or just playing outside. It doesn’t take much for us to all have fun. That is what makes me smile and gives me joy. Read more>>

The story I hope people tell about me when I’m gone is that I was a funny person. Not in a loud, look‑at‑me way, and not because I was trying to be. I’ve never been the type to chase attention or craft some big persona. Read more>>

That safety changes everything. People don’t grow, connect, or heal because they’re pushed they do so when they feel safe enough to be honest. That rest is not a reward; it’s a requirement. Nothing sustainable is built from constant urgency. And that presence matters more than perfection. Read more>>

Yes, as my willpower was never dependent upon others’ approval ratings to begin. To have the vision, drive, tenacity, and motor to get things done when everyone else strives to disprove, denounce, degrade, and turn down your dreams and ambitions due to their own circumstances, must come solely from within. I enjoy building comfort for those who have experienced trauma or are watching someone they care for navigate it. Traumas are invisible things that affect us mentally, emotionally, and sometimes even physically. Through our music, and a book that I wrote under a pseudonym to protect myself, I unleash my demons so that others feel less alone in theirs. Read more>>

Suffering taught me accountability in a way success never could. I had to confront how many of my choices, not just my circumstances, contributed to where I was. That awareness was uncomfortable, but it was also freeing. I learned that no one will ever care about your life as much as you do, and that responsibility can’t be outsourced. Read more>>

Suffering taught me endurance. You have to suffer to become successful. Nothing meaningful is handed to you easily. Struggle builds the kind of strength that success alone never could, and it prepares you to hold onto what you’ve worked for. Read more>>

This morning, during a conversation with one of my partners in Africa, we talked about something many people still get wrong about the fashion industry. Too often, people assume fashion designing is a simple business—one where you invest some capital and wait for success to show up, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Fashion is not a business for the uncommitted. Read more>>

I stopped hiding my pain when I realized it was shaping my purpose. Growing up with dyslexia and struggling with ADHD and anxiety meant I had to work harder and learn differently. For a long time, I saw that as something to overcome quietly. Over time, I recognized that those challenges gave me resilience, empathy, and determination. Read more>>
